How heartbreaking to build such small coffins. This madness has to stop. Trey is such a kind man, I wish he doesn't ever have to build a small coffin again.

This man does deserve a lot of respect but seriously why do you lot keep killing children I just don't understand why these people need to do this when it would be better for everyone to co trol this lunacy that you disguise as freedom. So sad

This is what comes from living under an utterly corrupt and ineffective government. The majority of Americans are in favor of gun control, but because the NRA and gun lobbyists line the pockets of the politicians, the politicians make laws that are favorable to those companies. They don't give a damn about these dead children.

Not really. He's making bespoke coffins for individuals - that means each one will reflect the personality of its occupant. Wanting to see the rest means wanting to see more about each child who became a victim.

Redditor u/LydiaAgain, one of the mods managing things behind the scenes at the massively popular r/Damnthatsinteresting, stressed that the content posted by the members needs to make someone stop and go, "Well, damn!" It's supposed to leave a powerful impression. The impact really matters.

"Being merely cute, topical, unusual [isn't the same as] interesting. We look for new, original content if possible," she said.

Bored Panda was curious about the subreddit's rules, and whether the mod has some other guidelines that new members should know about that weren't written in the sidebar. She quipped that one of the main issues is that some members simply don't read what's already written there.

Guess which country this is, my high school(public school) which has 1000 kids and is in the middle of a capital city, has only 50% of the heaters working, all of the text-books are falling apart, are older than me and deny climate change, the buildings are from the 70s and have had no repairs, teachers don’t care about drugs. 1 third of teachers are teaching classes that they don’t have a degree on, there is no support or education for LGBTQ+ kids (I am gay and same sex marriage is legal) and kids are saying the homophobic f-word with no consequences. Meanwhile a private school, 100-200 meters away, has all of the teachers with extensive training and in all of their classes, they have the latest text books, extensive drug and health education, the facilities are all rebuilt every 5 years, and even though it is a Greek Orthodox school has multiple programs set up to help queer kids and has only 600 kids. This funding is all taxpayer and is set up by the federal government.

"Our rules are pretty straightforward, the main issue is people do not read the rules in the sidebar. My main advice is to actually read the rules and browse the subreddit before posting. Also, sending modmail about where your post has gone is not helpful as it gets buried in dozens of others, and will not result in approval," she explained.

Lydia revealed to Bored Panda that she personally spends around 2 to 3 hours each day helping moderate the subreddit. However, the time that other mods spend might be different. "Duties include checking modqueue, looking at modmail, browsing the subreddit to remove posts and comments, and trying to eliminate spam."

Meanwhile, UCLA professor Castel, the author of 'Better with Age: The Psychology of Successful Aging,' was kind enough to answer our questions about sparking our curiosity if we think we already know everything, and what helps us stay mentally sharp as we age.

"Our awareness of our own cognitive ability and knowledge is called metacognition. Often as we get older, we are more aware of what we know, what we don’t know, and also what we are most interested in. I think being selective can be important so that we can focus on remembering and being curious about what interests us," he explained to Bored Panda.

Likely had to get out in a big hurry and he wouldn't come with them. He was determined to care for his flock, and wasn't going to abandon them to jump in a car or truck. Anyone who's ever tried to catch a dog that doesn't want to be caught knows it ain't happening! Wildfires can come on very fast, and evacuation may have to be done in a matter of minutes, leaving zero time to chase a large dog over acres of land. I'm sure his people didn't want to leave him.

Zelensyy is exactly what a leader should be. He's not asking his people to do something he won't do himself. Our government sits its fat behind in his comfy desk chair in its plush office, in which the temperature is always 72° and the light is dimmed just right so its eyes don't get strained and our government sends our children to a place the tents don't happen to be plush (at all), it's either way to hot or way too cold and the wind is always blowing, and it's hard to see because the sun is so bright or it's so dark they can't even see the enemy. No, I can't see a single person in our government who would do what Zelenskyy did: Step onto the battlefield with his warriors to fight the enemy.

I think metacognition and awe can make us more curious about the things that are important to us, especially as we get older," he shared some advice that might be useful for those people who feel like there's nothing new to learn about the world or that everything seems dull.

According to Dr. Castel, staying physically and mentally active helps keep our minds sharp. "Research shows that physical exercise such as walking can improve brain function and memory, and being socially connected has wide-spread benefits for the brain," he shared.

"Thus, it is likely a combination of things that keep us sharp, such as being physically active, talking to people, reading, being connected, and remaining curious about things that are important."

People like him, who are there for the right reasons, are needed in politics and need support, not skepticism that they'll do any good and certainly not criticism for being a do gooder or for making people think or look in the mirror. Every little effort counts in the fight for what's right. If it's too upsetting to be reminded of the less fortunate you can steer clear of politics or I suppose choose to listen to the charlatans who will tell you there's nothing to feel bad about because all the ills of the less fortunate are their own fault. Although how that doesn't make a person feel guilty is beyond me.

Another good point is that the soil of road infrastructures has already been lost to farming and wild nature anyway, so it's better to put solar panels there than in other places that can be left alone then. Plus maintenance is quite easy since they're directly on road access.

I love the idea but it probably wouldn't work. People shoot at signs, cars and buildings. The panels would need good security cams. As you mentioned the politics are all wrong.

Interesting idea, but as someone who cycles long-ish distances, the thought of cycling enclosed between expressway lanes (Noise! Fumes! Accidents!) is not so appealing. Also, I presume opporunities to join and leave this lane are limited to expressway junctions? PITA to get away from if your cycle breaks down as well. I suppose it would be useful for people who want/need to cycle between locations served by this (or who just want to burn distance), but doesn't seem so attractive for leisure cycling.

I wonder where this is in Korea. I personally like the idea of the solar panels but the bicycle lane isn't very well thought out. Most entry and exit areas for cars on highways aren't well planned and the addition of an afterthought bicycle lane scares me

Out of curiosity, how do the cyclists exit the bike path since its in the middle of the highway?

The r/Damnthatsinteresting subreddit has been around for a while now. Founded back in late July of 2013, it’ll be celebrating its 9th birthday very soon.

In that time, the sub has amassed a multi-million-member community and carved out a pretty damn large niche for itself on Reddit and the internet at large. If you love their content, then you should definitely join the subreddit. However, before you share any interesting things of your own, there are a few rules to be aware of.

New members should definitely check out the sidebar before posting anything. It’s got all the guidelines they’ll need to make sure that the content they share is relevant and of the highest quality possible. The subreddit cares about keeping standards high, as it’s what’s helped it entrench its position as a popular community in the first place.

One of the main things you should be aware of is that your posts have to fit the r/Damnthatsinteresting theme. “This subreddit is for things that are interesting and cool. Content that is only cute, funny, a meme, or 'mildly interesting' will be removed. Posts should be able to elicit a reaction of ‘Damnthatsinteresting,’” the moderators explain that the pics and videos shared should elicit a powerful reaction from the audience. Anything less than stellar has its place elsewhere on Reddit.

My great-grandfather, Robert Jackson Ballew, owned a sawmill in 1918. He employed many men, several who lived in the nearby boarding house that he owned. His daughter, my grandmother, lived to be 100. She would often tell the story how all the boarders came to dinner each night with her family. One of her father's best workers and friend was black. When he was first hired and the meal was served, he took his plate and retreated to the kitchen. Her father left the table and went to get his friend. He announced that his friend had a place at the table and would be dining with them all. That anyone who objected could leave the table and their job. No one left. I know that's just a small action, but in those days it was huge. I grew up in the 60's in the southern US. My grandparents set an example for me how people were to be treated. They had problems of their own and lost friends when they defended equal rights. I miss them.

The sole reason I have flowering plants in my garden is for these guys. I have put bee watering stations all over so that they don't drown when drinking and in winter, I put watered down syrup out for them.

Anyone else noticed that there are less and less bees in the garden over the last few years? And the ones that I DO see ... too many of them are crawling around on the concrete, obviously very sick and dying. When I find them like this, I let them crawl onto my finger so I can place them onto a green plant to alleviate the extra burden of being cooked to death on concrete. Oh yeah, just one other thing: if the BEES die ... we ALL die! Think about it!!

I have noticed bees getting less common. But this summer there are more of them where I live, hooray! 🐝. You can help them: put water for them on a saucer with little stones or marbles in it so they don't drown. Put a lavender plant outside your home, they love that. Or build a bee hotel out of bamboo sticks. Google "bee hotel".

I've got a (controversial) theory that heaven and hell are the same place: any heaven that accepts people who would do cruel things to others, who are bigotted from their own hatred and lie about it coming from a holy book, who are basically horrible people who just say the right things when their actions are completely different - a heaven that accepts those people would be absolutely hell for those who don't subscribe to such falsehoods.

Insulin therapy has come such a long way in 100 years. Now we have several different types of insulin for different purposes, insulin pumps, and even closed-loop systems that almost manage to replicate a working pancreas. Those kids 100 years ago may have woken from their comas, but their lives were still very much in danger back then. I feel very blessed to have been born when I was so that I can survive this condition.

American POWs weren't allowed to communicate in the camps, at all. Not just verbally but no sign language either. So they used a combination of Morse code and a code they created. They would spell out every word letter by letter but since they would be severely punished if the Vietnamese found out they were communicating they had to be incredibly sneaky. So they would do it via things like using the sounds of the strokes of the broom when they were sweeping during the work detail. Sometimes they could get away with tapping on the walls or clicking their tongues. I saw a video with former POWs talking about it and they all still know the code. It was so heartbreaking but also showed their determination to care for each other.

Meanwhile in the US... immigrants who are trying to get out of a war torn country are thrown in cages & separated from their children & usually sent back to the violent Country they risked everything to flee. Irony is.... the countries they're running from are being fueled with guns from the United States... all because of our own lax gun laws & failure to stop vehicles going into Mexico... so the very violence they're fleeing is literally violence the US is supplying guns to... & we still won't let them into our country.

"This is constantly happening in science; as new discoveries are made, old discoveries have to be reevaluated," physicist Steven told Bored Panda.

"Try to view the world as a child does. Basically, keep asking 'why?' questions. As you learn the answer to one question, another will arise, and so on. It is a common situation in science that the more we know, the more questions there are. Keep questioning the world around you," he shared how we can keep our curiosity alive.

I'd like to have regular updates about this, because it is awesome and very important and I am quite concerned about the growing problems of freedom of thought and speech in some countries. I can think of several authoritarian states that are very capable of just banning Minecraft without a second thought now.

If she can, then dogs should be able to reliably detect it even at a higher rate. They can already sniff out certain cancers, and COVID. I wonder why we don't use them more? Oh also, they make GREAT diabetic alert dogs to help T2 diabetics detect when their sugars are too low or too high.

I think I might have some power like this. Very rarely I will smell the stentch of death off people/animals. It is overpowering to me and I could smell it from across a large room filled with other smells. I smelt it very strongly an entire week before my friends rats died, however, he was so messy I wouldn't be surprised if they were already dead and he hadn't noticed. I don't know what it it, it's rare and random but it's something

There will come a day when no one is left alive from the horrors of WWII. No soldiers that liberated a death camp. No holocaust survivors. No one who can say they saw it with their own eyes. Given how much hate there is with these people around now, it scares me to think of what it may end up like when they are all gone.

if a full face helmet was worn, parts of his/her face would have been torn off, and they'll be picking gravel from what's left of the face for ages...

That's why I won't wear anything other than a full face helmet. I see people going around on their bikes in the bear minimum of a helmet wearing shorts, a t-shirt and wearing flip-flops, and I really hope they never fall off their motorcycle.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy After Kyiv Survived A Full On Assault By Russian Forces Tonight, Announces He Is Right Here In The City And Is Not Going Anywhere

Translation: “Good morning to everybody. Ukrainians, there is a lot of fake information online regarding myself calling our troops and volunteers to lay down arms and that our army is currently evacuating. I'm here. We won't lay down our arms. We will be defending our country because our weapons are our truth. Our truth is that it is our land, our country, our children and all this will be protected. That is all. This is what I wanted to say. Glory to Ukraine”

It's a shame that addicts make it so hard for those who truly are in chronic pain . Why are the addicts more important than people who have worked hard jobs to the point that they are disabled? Or people that have injuries or diseases? How many of them have died because of pain?

What the above fails to mention is that he went through a YEAR of calling up and being passed around by their customer "service" and they would not give him the time of day. When this song and video really started making them hurt, all of a sudden United was falling over themselves, offering to buy the video right from him to use as a "training video." The video is still available on YouTube, because the musician was still just so angry at their treatment first of his guitar, and then him.

When I was a kid I went on a musical tour to the US, and my mother told me do NOT let the baggage handlers take my violin. Keep it as carry-on at all times. I did just that, while the other violin player did not. Her violin was damaged in transit, and so were several other instruments. Mine made it home in perfect shape, and the guitar player got in trouble for yelling and swearing and kicking things when he found out what those lunkheads had done to his guitar.

Soloist soprano singers back then were notorious for acting like obnoxious divas. It's said Handel himself got so frustrated with one that he picked her up during a rehearsal and threatened to throw her out the window!

The materials are mostly titanium alloys for the joints, bolts and screws and carbon fiber for the shell due to make is as lightweight and sturdy as possible. (So it's basically like a race car body...) For the last layer you can select nearly any kind of colorful fabric as shown in the picture above. And yes, it's expensive - but in civilized countries the health insurance will cover it.

I did like those two, but I was into rap (slim shady, dre, snoop, all the OGs) The more I learn about Kurt Cobain the more I realize he was cool af. He cared about and respected all the women in his shows and at his shows. Ive seen vids of him stopping shows cuz men were doing things to women. Class Act. I am now a Nirvana fan

There's a bit more of Dutch origin in New York, like Coney Island used to be Konijnen eiland (rabbit island), Breukelen is now Brooklyn, Haarlem for Harlem, Vlissingen is now Flushing and Staten Island refers to the "Staten Generaal" (representatives of the people) to name a few. Actually pretty weird. We, as scientists research & develop, out of curiosity & to make the world a better place. A lot of the research performed is being payed by society [taxes] or by free gifts. There were it involves industry it hardly ends up as a publication as it is "company" property as it may end up in patents or applications. We publish our results, as it is a measure of quality and at the same time share our findings with the world. Then there are greedy companies who say Nay: you may publish but we'll keep all the profit. In that respect it is worse than the Music Industry and it should be tackled down to its roots

The figure is accurate, but a little misleading, because of the way our brains interpret the data. We hear food waste and think about it from our own perspective and scale - bought too many sausages for the cookout, had to throw them away after no one ate them. Or even - "Little Jerome didn't clean his plate, now the rest of his dinner is in the trash as food waste." In actuality, the majority of food waste comes from things like spoilage in the fields, faulty storage, and grocery stores ordering more than they can sell. This makes the problem a lot more complicated to solve than "don't buy more than you need, eat what you have." I know hotels that offer complimentary breakfast are a big waster of food, because the food sits out for a certain amount of time in the morning and they are obligated not to keep it, as it has passed the safety threshold. So that particular problem would have a set of solutions, while transport problems would be a different solution.

The way to do all you can eat is, first take a little of everything that looks good, taste them and then go for seconds on the ones you liked. And remember: no one said you can't go for thirds so take less than you think you'll eat

When I was a kid, we'd go to a "family style" buffet restaurant that would weigh the food left on your plate and charge you for that. Take all you want, but eat all you take!

I live in a suburb of DC. It took 20 minutes to drive to my college, or 3.5 hours each way on the bus, partly because of a layover and several bus changes. Free bus service was supposed to be a benefit for students, but the college is on the far edge of town and the bus just isn't a practical way to get there for most students. I think if public transportation in the US was somehow reimagined, a lot more people would give up their cars. But our infrastructure is already crumbling and the republicans refuse to allow the democrats to do anything about it, even though it would benefit millions of citizens.

Mary Ann Bevan had a "normal" appearance until she developed acromegaly in her thirties. Acromegaly is a growth hormone disorder that causes parts of the body to enlarge after the growth plates have closed. It can cause many other health issues. Unbelievably, Hallmark card used her image on a joke birthday card in the 2000s (it was withdrawn after a Dutch doctor pointed out how disrespectful it was).

That's why you tell NO ONE. You don't let them publish your name / face in the paper after winning etc. You just quietly quit your job and live somewhere nice and far away.

A lot of US states don't allow you to do this. There's only the possibility of anonymity in states that have specifically passed laws for lottery winnings. Really should be nation wide imo.

Gosh, I’ve heard so many similar stories about “gifted” lottery tickets - not all for such a high amount, one I know about personally was about 10 000 DM (yes, it was that long ago) and it’s always the same story: “I gifted you the ticket, so I should get some….” “I’m your sibling, so I should get some…” and so on, and so on…..Please don’t “gift” anyone a lottery ticket if you’re then going to act like that.

IIRC, he was found in the Mojave several years ago, fully clothed. The police were called, and they thought they'd be able to solve one of the many cold cases on file, until the county anthropologist said he'd been dead way longer than 20 or 30 years.

The condition causes premature death due to the enlargement of the heart and the accelerated metabolism to feed the body that is constantly starving of nutrients due to the imbalance. In humans most people don’t live past their 20’s

You sure that's not just a toilet (with a 20C grating over it)? ...because I've seen a lot of toilets in castles and by the time they've had a thousand years of backsides and had their wooden-plank seat removed, they all look like this. (And no, they didn't all discharge into the moat, most were just a pit that had to be emptied.) (Yes, it has occured to me that the pic might be a stock photo used to illustrate the point.)
