Flight journeys can be pretty quirky because we are stuck with random strangers so high up in the sky. Some folks are chatty, some mind their own business, and some just sleep through it. But a few bad apples can ruin the journey for other passengers with their entitled behavior.

Speaking of such people, one person shared online how their flight took a weird turn because of a father and toddler sitting next to them. The dad shamelessly used the middle seat to change the kid’s diaper, stored it in the backseat pocket, and even asked the flight attendant to bin it. Read on to find out what the passenger did!

Flying with a child can be challenging for parents

From traveling to explore other countries to going on business trips, thousands of people fly every day around the world. In fact, research shows that in the United States, the Federal Aviation Administration’s Air Traffic Organization handles an average of 44,360 flights each day.

During peak operational time, there are approximately 5,500 aircraft in the sky over the US. Also, over 3 million passengers fly every day in and out of the nation’s airports. With so many people moving around daily, we are bound to run into a few troublesome flyers.

Well, it’s hardly surprising that so far in 2026, the FAA reports that there have been 1,163 unruly passenger reports, 89 investigations initiated, and 72 enforcement actions initiated. In total, the agency has fined unruly passengers a total of $1.5 million in 2026 through August.

The FAA also reports that the number of fights on flights has increased in recent years. There are many reasons why people spark drama during the journey. Generally, we hear stories about people squabbling over seats, getting annoyed because the food is not to their liking, or battling over the armrest.

Sometimes, fights can also be sparked because of loud noises, especially babies crying. Parents mostly make an effort to keep their kids engaged so they don’t end up weeping. After all, such a cramped space can be a little uncomfortable for children. But some flyers can be really harsh and even lash out at the parents if the baby won’t stop crying.

Some parents think they deserve special treatment just because they are traveling with a kid

Well, traveling with children is no easy feat. Experts highlight that parenting stress is rampant. They also bring up a study which found that, in general, 29% of parents reported chronically high levels of parenting stress, most pronounced in parents with children under the age of five (35%).

In fact, people can be more stressed if they are a single parent traveling with a child. However, having said that, they shouldn’t act entitled or expect special treatment just because of this reason. But some people think that the world revolves around them and they can do what they want.

Author and psychology professor RJ Starr explains that entitled individuals possess an inflated sense of their own importance. They also tend to struggle with empathy. They see other people less as subjects with their own inner lives and more as instruments that either deliver what they want or get in the way.

Well, no wonder the father in this scenario didn’t hesitate to ask the flight attendant to dispose of the dirty diaper. Also, he didn’t even think twice about putting it in the seatback pocket where people often keep their things. His unhygienic behavior also bothered the poster, as it would have smelled awful.

People online applauded the author for taking a stand and actually doing something about it. After all, not everyone can call out people’s wrongdoings.
