Even though there are a lot of people who have already met a hedgehog somewhere in nature, having one as a pet is also possible. But how much is there that we don’t know about hedgehogs?
Hedgehogs are small nocturnal animals that are well-recognized for spikes on their back. Right now, more and more people tend to keep hedgehogs as pets. But what to do if you find one in your backyard? British Hedgehog Preservation Society created guidelines that explain how to help these little creatures if you find one hurt or in danger. This is important in order to make sure that the number of hedgehogs in the wild doesn't decline.

There is an odd one out. The second furthest one is pink. The others are dark.
Hedgehogs are perfect for those who don’t have a lot of space but still want to have a pet as they don’t make loud noises and they don’t emit bad smells. Hedgehogs are also a great choice for those who are allergic to dander. They don’t require special vaccinations like other pet animals, so if taken care of right, hedgehogs should only see the veterinarian for their annual checkup.

that's a European hedgehog, not the African Pygmy hedgehog, which are commonly the species used as pets. For all you know, whoever took the picture could have rescued this young one and it could have been feeding at the time. Don't assume, makes you look like an "ass"

I love animals and feel so bad for hedgehogs being in the hands of just about any unqualified person. Most of these creatures are being exploited as poseable toys and accessories with no thought as to their needs and comfort.

Hedgehogs require special care and are not normally social creatures. They are nocturnal, which means they sleep during the day. I wish the editors of BP had been more responsible and used this extremely long pictorial to educate people on hedgehog needs and habits. Most of these images show what we interpret as the hedgehogs smiling and happy. That's entirely inaccurate. Those are their faces, not smiles reflective of human emotions.

It's an unhealthy trend to keep "fancy" wild animals as pets. Hedgehogs shouldn't be kept, they can impossibly live a good life in captivity due to their needs
