Hamsters are probably as cute as they are because of their massive cheek pouches, which they use to carry food back to their burrows in the wild. These pouches can more than double the size of their faces!
Before getting a hamster, make sure they're right for you – they are most active at dusk and dawn, and may bite if they are woken up during the day. Because they are fragile, and because they can bite when frightened or before they've been hand-tamed, children should be supervised by adults when handling them.
