TikTok user @seejoyy decided to share her first New York apartment story and why she had to move out from there. The video that now has 1.2M views tells a story of how she found out that her neighbor was actually stalking her.

@seejoy, whose real name is Catherine, as she later reveals in her video, started her story by stating that she has to share her story just to make sure that she understands how real it is. She was living in an apartment, located in Brooklyn, for 3 years. In a later video, she showed the condition of the apartment and that she was going to move out from it anyway. And it seems that stalker neighbor made things move faster.

Catherine starts her story by telling that she had a few noise complaints from her old, 73-year-old neighbor who she’d never actually met. After this, she received a note from him, but she didn’t think much of it as she thought it was funny and this was the way how this old man decided to express his anger. The note stated: “Dear Catherine, word’s getting around that you’re a floozy who can’t keep it in their pants.” What she was aware of is that he addressed her by her actual name, not by the one she was called on a daily basis.

The story reached its peak when she found him standing in her apartment while she was sleeping. Catherine woke up immediately and told the man to leave. After this, she called her parents and the police. When the police came, they at first had trouble with getting into his apartment. But according to the TikToker, they finally arrested him.

The young woman was taken back to her parents’ home, where she found out that her creepy neighbor was actually sending her multiple notes, similar to the one she got after noise complaints. These messages sent directly to her previous house in Long Island made her speculate that he might have been coming to her apartment while she was gone or when she was sleeping and going through her personal belongings.

I didn’t tell my parents because I honestly didn’t think my postcard was that serious I have old creepy men being weird towards me all the time.
Gotcha, that is one messed up situation. If I had woken up to some creepy old man staring at me I think I would have pooped myself. Right after I lost my mind out of complete and utter terror of course. Hopefully you're safe and that ok'd fart is locked up right.

I didn't know at the time but figured out my old land lord oils go into my ex bf apt when we weren't there. I'd noticed a few things moved around. But figured my kitten at the time was playing around. But one day I decided to change out our locks because my ex bf lost a key. So I'd get two new ones w a new handset. I left the deadbolt because we locked that at night Well one day at like 11am I'm home an can see the stairs up to our place. I see him walking up them. I'm in my night clothes playing on the computer. I turn the sound off an it's dark so he can't see in an me inside as he passes up to the door. I hear him put his key in an start forcing on the door. Like he thinks it's stuck. He tries the deadbolt which I had locked an can unlock that. Now I'm scared he will break the door in. To get in? For what? Finally he relooks the deadbolt an leaves. I can see him trying to look in the window. He left. My kitten meanwhile was at my feet trembling. He must have hurt her
When we were out. Ladies please just change the locks or add one u can use as backup in case this happens. That old guy might have had a key to help the old tenant an never returned it. I hope they arrest him.
I a woman lived a alone in my 20s and the maintenance men would go in my apt when I wasn't home and go through my things. I found out through a friend that was friends w one of the maintenance men's sons. He told me how much my paychecks were and where personal things were stored and what they were. I got a new lock so they couldn't let themselves in wo telling me. Scary stuff. One of them used to ask me out all the time too.
I had a landlord come in whenever I wasn't home. I always felt weird in my place and my bird was the first clue something was going on. It was the one time I didn't change the locks when I moved in. Normally, I'll change at least one lock and if the landlord gives me notice that they're going to be there, I'd put the old lock for that day and so on. It's 100% illegal for them to come in whenever they please unless there's an emergency. I know me changing the locks isn't legal, but how else does one protect themselves from this? It's perfectly legal to change your locks and leave a key with someone who is NOT your landlord in case they have to enter. Most jurisdictions require the landlord to give 24 hours notice in writing before they enter your home. They are also NOT allowed to object if you're home at the same time.

My bird started speaking in a man's voice and saying my name, which I thought was odd because I lived alone and although he's a very smart bird, he did not know my name, lol! It is illegal in most places to change the locks without your landlords permission. It is in your lease. They have to be able to get in if there's an emergency like a water leak. It is legal to have a locking mechanism that can only be operated from the inside when you are home. I have a chain on mine. Not the most secure but I will sure hear it if someone tries to bust my door in.
In Australia it's illegal to change the locks without telling the landlord/agent first and then suppling them with a key. So check your tenancy agreement before doing anything. It can be up to a $20,000 fine (I think, depending on circumstances) if a landlord enters the property without 24 hours notice if it's not an emergency. I rent to a friend, and I sometimes joke when I come over "Are you sure you give me permission to enter the property?".
You can get a locksmith to rekey your dead bolt. I've done it a couple of times. It takes them about 15 minutes and costs about 25 bucks. Worth every penny.
Some guy sneaking into my bedroom while I'm asleep is my worst nightmare. Literally - when I'm stressed out or running a temperature, that's my recurring night terror. Sometimes he's just standing there, but if it's a REALLY bad dream he violently rips the covers off me, and it feels so real. It's horrible. :(
