People Are Bored Of The Traditional Christmas Decorations And Gave Them Their Own Twist (214 Pics)
One of the ways to celebrate Christmas and to make the waiting for it more fun is decorating our houses, rooms, yards and even workplaces with lights, garlands, and of course, the Christmas tree.
But sometimes we get bored of the traditional decorations, especially when we do the same thing every year. It takes just a little bit of creativity to make them a little different and bring joy to the festive season.
Bored Panda is fascinated with people who can come up with different ways to do the same old things and went to the internet to find the most out-of-the-box decorations to both admire them and get inspired.

My mom kept a lot of the ornaments that me and my brothers made as kids. For a while, my mom was having mental /emotional issues. She kept moving from one guy to the next, losing her possessions with every move (and, yes, I did try to get her to move in with me). She gave me a popcorn tin full of our homemade ornaments and told me to keep them safe. My Christmas tree now holds a disorganized hodgepodge of ornaments; nothing matches. And I love it! I am the keeper of the ornaments! Bow before my might of memories!

And it is very possible that the tradition of hanging up decorations during the darkest and coldest period of winter comes from the same Saturnalia festival. Many of their decorations were natural and involved greenery. They were hung over doorways or windows. Often the ornaments had sun symbols on them, stars and faces of the God Janus.
Actually, food was also part of the decorations. Gilded cakes in different shapes, like the sun, moon, stars or animal shapes.

If you’re wondering where the tradition of decorating Christmas trees came from, you may be surprised to know that it’s actually a quite recent custom. Different sources give a different date and place but it is around the 16th century during the Renaissance. One of the written records of a decorated Christmas Tree dates from 1510 and it was put up in Riga, Latvia. Others contribute the start of the tradition to Germans a little bit later in the 16th century.

Whatever the origins of the decorations were, now they are very different from what they used to be and they actually have different significance. For example, the star on the top of the Christmas tree symbolizes the star of Bethlehem which led the three Kings to Jesus when he was born.
The wreath which many people hang on their front door or put as a centerpiece on the table is often said to represent the crown of thorns that Jesus wore when he was crucified.
Christmas is also unimaginable without lights which represent the stars in the sky. The bells are often associated with the shepherd who would ring the bell to call their sheep back. Talking about shepherds, their stick with a rounded end used to guide the sheep took form as candy canes in modern days.

My local grocery store was selling mini grinch trees that were bent over, with ribbon wrapped around them. They also had mini Charlie Brown trees. Both were live trees, so you could plant them after Christmas. Not gonna lie, I almost bought one. But then I was like, "TF I need a live pine tree for? I live in the woods! Im surrounded by pine trees!" Lol.

I was going to say, I've done stained glass before, too, and I've never seen glass that was so perfectly colored. So what did they do? Use glass in colors that were similar to what they needed and then paint/colorize the panels? I can see the seams of where the certain pieces meet but most of the detail seems like it was added after the fact. I haven't done stained glass projects in years! Maybe it's time to start again 🤗

I wonder why this is necessary. We grew up in a European family that still had candles on the tree at Christmas. Real candles. Not one of us kids would have damaged or rough-housed around the tree. It was beautiful and we were in awe. Parenting helps.

Yes, but do you remember how you acted around the tree when you were a toddler? I hate to make assumptions, but the way you referred to your own childhood instead your own parenting experience leads me to think you yourself haven’t done any parenting, so why do you assume you know “the struggle” yourself? Plus, not every kid is the same. These posts aren’t here for the criticism, and so instead of doing just that I applaud this family for going into all this effort to keep the Christmas spirit alive in their house!

Am finally in a proper freestanding house after 30+ years in apartments, so I bought a proper big tree (my apartment sized one is decorated and sitting in one of the front windows.) I've put 900 micro LED lights on it and decorated in copper, olive and teal colours - different sized glitter baubles and a whole heap of glittering clip on birds with long, feathery tails. I just love it and I can't stop looking at it, despite the fact that it took me literally HOURS!

My living room has grown smaller now that my husband is in a hospital bed and I have to use a lift to move him into his chair. So I invested in a pencil tree that I swore I would never do, but it's growing on me. Anyway I have always wanted to display my rosary collection and this year decided to decorate my tree with my rosaries! It's beautiful! I absolutely love it! Have had many compliments about my tree and it's decorations. Bethlehem star for a topper.

Watching all these trees made me feel extremely lazy for not trying to come up with a tree but I'm not about to try and create a tree on Christmas day. Not happening. Merry Christmas everyone. Stay safe, stay loved and the best of wishes for 2022

Thanks! You too! I've been sick, so my husband and I didn't want to go all out with decorating this year (plus, no one would see it, so it seemed a waste of effort). We got a Holly bush a few days before Christmas, and put a few ornaments on it. That was it; that's all the decorating we were willing to do. Merry Christmas!
