Craig Melvin desperately needed a rescue mission during his interview with actress Parker Posey
Monday morning was off to an interesting start for everyone on the Today show as they welcomed acclaimed actress Parker Posey, 57, as their guest.
The Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated star sat opposite Craig Melvin for a chat about what she’s been up to lately.
Posey recently made her debut as a reality TV host by helming the Hulu show The Mob.
The interview took an unexpected turn when Melvin brought up her rumored role in an upcoming horror movie, Sleepover.
Reports claimed earlier this month that Posey had signed on to the horror-thriller Sleepover, expected to release in 2027.
“Before I let you get out of here, we’ve got to talk horror,” the interviewer said, trying to segue into a conversation about the upcoming film.
One misheard word caused mayhem, as Posey thought the Today show anchor insulted her
His words prompted Posey to lean in, looking alarmed.
Melvin then repeated himself, after which Posey laughed and admitted she misheard him.
“I thought you called me a wh*re,” she said.
Melvin immediately tried to clear up the misunderstanding and insisted he had done no such thing.
“I did not call you a wh*re!” he exclaimed, going on to spell out the word: “H-O-R-R-O-R.”
“Tell us about your horror film…” he said, trying to move past the embarrassing moment.
Melvin probably thought the worst was over, but he was in for another unpleasant surprise: Posey said she was no longer involved in the project.

“I’m not doing it anymore,” the actress replied.
Melvin began scrambling once again as he realized his notes had utterly failed him.
Posey, also realizing the interview was spiraling, said: “It is true. Now I’m sweating. Can I use this as a fan?”
As the Scream 3 actress fanned herself, Melvin asked whether she was ever involved in the project.
“I was!” she shared. “It’s not happening anymore. Something came up.”
“Okay, well, now it’s even more awkward than usual,” the Today show anchor quipped.
Posey tried to lighten things up by bringing up his People’s Sexiest Morning TV Host title

Despite the rocky interview, Posey appeared keen to reassure Melvin that there were no hard feelings.
She took the lead for a moment and brought up Melvin being recently crowned as People’s Sexiest Morning TV Host in the reader’s choice poll.
“Hotter than a cup of coffee,” Posey said, pulling up the tagline from the title he received last week.
Melvin then asked his colleague Carson Daly to “save” them by transitioning into something else.
“I can’t. We have another viral clip coming up for sure,” Daly offered.
Viewers laughed off the moment, saying it seemed like a series of innocent mistakes. Others, however, were harsh with their comments about the interviewer.
“Very funny and real moment. The deal probably fell thru moments before she walked on that set. Gave us a laugh,” one said.
Another wrote, “Sounds like an innocent string of errors. We can all relate to awkwardness……”
One critic said, “He s*cks so bad. Worst host ever, and that is saying a lot.”
“Say what you will, but this guy is clearly way above his head in this job,” another wrote. “Makes you wonder ‘how’ he got the job in the first place.”
Posey recently made her debut as a reality TV host, helming the Hulu show The Mob
Posey’s new reality TV show The Mob premiered on Hulu on October 26. Fans can expect new episodes every week.
The reality TV show sent a group of celebrities to a swanky Italian location, where they will hustle and tackle different mob movie-inspired tasks to survive and win up to $250,000 in cash prizes.
Creators Adam Wood and Mat Steiner seemed ecstatic about Posey being the host.
“The icing on the cake was getting Parker Posey to host, who brings glamour, quirky humor and gravitas,” they told People last month.
