Belgian woman, Suzanne Hoylaerts aged 90, dies of #Covid_19 after refusing a respirator, telling her doctors "Save it for the youngest [who need it most], I've already had a beautiful life." Not all #Heroes wear capes !
Not fair, governments should be doing their job so that seniors wouldn't have to do this and die. It's terrible that the media is saying things like "it just affects older people" and all that as if their lives meant nothing. We must stop letting them die.
There is indeed a heaven. And that lady is there, watching over her family (if she still has one)

This is great, but to protect he couldn’t he work with non corona patients (cancer, any sickness aside from covid because they don’t just disappear!)

While you’re quarantined and working from home, your community still needs some help. Bored Panda contacted Marlena Hartz, the director of communications at the nonprofit organization GlobalGiving. She told us that, fortunately, people are happy helping others during the crisis. “Our data shows that giving continues to be strong right now, and people are responding generously to help those in need.” GlobalGiving runs a Coronavirus Relief Fund that has already raised more than $1 million.
But Marlena warns that “many nonprofits in our communities are struggling to survive in the time of the coronavirus, with lost revenue from fundraising events, sudden technology needs, and an increase in demand for help from people who need food, access to health care, and more.” Thus it’s very important to raise your voice for those in need on social media. If you have the means, consider making a donation to the nonprofit of your choice.
A lot of banks all over the world adjusted their mortgage repayment requirements in line with the Coronavirus outbreak, in order to accommodate homeowners and investors who may struggle paying their mortgage for a period of time. So if banks can help, why not landlords who have this option to do so?
Load More Replies...My landlord is raising my rent by 25$ (a little less than 2%), but only in September (instead of July - when most of the leases start in Quebec). Although I'm self employed and will have to cut costs, I told him I'd still pay my rent in April as usual. I wish he would have cancelled the raise this year.
This is happening to my mother too. It makes me so frustrated. Mortgages can be put on hold for 6 months here, yet they still want to increase rent at this time. She also received a letter to say only life threatening maintenance emergencies would be repaired...which I'm pretty sure isn't legal.
Load More Replies...I would love to be like Paul, but I have to pay electric and sewer and trash and mortgage. We aren't charging late fees and are certainly not evicting anyone, but I can't pay the $30k mortgage out of my pocket. The important thing is for tenants to talk to their landlords and let them know what is going on so the landlords can plan on their end.
Here here. My parents are in the same situation. They are saying that if they pause the rent, which they can’t afford to do, then they will have to pay it back after, and if they don’t want to pay it, they will just move out.
Load More Replies...They sure do and there are A LOT of greedy a******s who are only concern about getting as much paper towels, toilet paper, cases of water and cleaning products. A woman SPIT in my f*****g face today at Walmart (I'm a cashier) because she didn't get what she wanted. Marlena finds it inspiring to see an outpouring of support on social media for stopping Covid-19. “People are so creative. From this hand-washing parody to celebrity giving challenges, we're continually surprised and overjoyed by the ingenuity and kindness of these good people in the midst of this global crisis.”
And some people are making heartwarming donations without having much themselves. Marlena recounted the moment when Jacqueline, a nonprofit founder herself, made a generous gift to Coronavirus Relief Fund. “She said she does not ‘know what tomorrow holds’ for her nonprofit, but 'she told us that she gives not because she has much, but because she understands what it means to have nothing.'”

Black Button, will remember this name next time I'm able to make a liquor store run lol!
This guy, who runs a local distillery, retooled his whole operation to go from producing bourbon to making hand sanitizer—-in 8 days—-yet big business is crying about how long it will take and how much of their vast resources they’ll need to give up to cover the costs to retool their ginormous factories to make ventilators and PPE for the recent spike in demand from hospitals across the country, which will undoubtedly not be the last such increase in need. Kudos to this guy. Shame on big business.
Because retooling ginormous factories to make ventilators is harder than adding gel to your alcohol and put it in plastic bottles. Just a change in recipe. Not saying this guy is worse than the guy who hoarded 17,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, but he definitely couldn't make respirators in a week either.
Load More Replies...Yeah, one of our alcohol distilleries did that, too. Then the control came and banned them from doing more. And, they're lucky they didn't get a fine because they "didn't have permission". C**P.
Overzealous bureaucrats can be absolutely detrimental to what the rest of us call common sense.
Load More Replies...We have two distillery's in Washington that are doing the same thing and one of them is giving the sanitizer away free
Here in Sweden the company that is producing alcohol is also doing the same starting with Absolut Vodka! So so good of them to change their production line!
Good of them, BUT ... I am absolutely terrified by the overconfidence on mathematical modeling the political establishment is displaying. Every day that goes by, I am hoping for someone to realize why all the idiots are driving on the wrong side of the motorway, that it is only one country left going in the wrong direction. Sweden is neither testing nor isolating, leaving it up to individuals to decide for themselves. Does Sweden really put the cost of testing before the life of its citizens?

Another way to help is supporting your local businesses. Find out if you are able to make a purchase online, which is a caring gesture amid these trying times. Many bars and restaurants have also been forced to shut down for quarantine. Consider buying gift cards for your friends and family.
San Antonio restaurant owner Steve McHugh explained that “gift cards are like interest-free loans.” The income from gift card purchases is seed money for many eateries that may help get them up and running after the crisis is over.
In the end, it all comes down to simple things—sharing food and other supplies with your neighbors or checking on how everyone is doing with a quick call. There is so much we could all do without setting foot outside our homes.

These wonderful people also helped during the dreadful bushfires we suffered in Australia.
This is precisely why you NEVER judge a book by its cover. You cannot tell how kind someone is on the inside by how they look on the outside. Evil often hides behind a thin façade of beauty.
What does this have to do with a "book cover' or beauty, Kathy? It has all to do with religion: "if you do not believe in my god, you are ugly and evil." In fact all religions are man-made and have nothing to do with worshiping of unknowable god, but everything to do with playing god. Very dangerous, indeed.
Load More Replies...I was driving out from Costco and I saw the homeless man who stands on the corner there asking for work to earn money. I rolled down my window and I told him to come over. He came up, I reached in my pocket and handed him a $50 bill. He started saying "thank you" but gasped halfway through. He said "Are you sure?!" I said "Absolutely...you need to take care of yourself too." Through a shaky voice he said "Bless you ma'am!" I said "You stay safe" and I pulled up to the stoplight and looked in the side mirror as he returned to his corner. He then folded his sign and turned away from the line of cars behind me and I could see he was crying. Remember that there are people out there with no place to go and no resources. Help where you can!
That is one of the kindest things I have ever heard of. Thank you for helping him.
Load More Replies...I'm not crying...... Oh who am I kidding this world needs more people like this
I had a similar experience. i was at Sprout's in Katy, TX a week ago, my AX card would not work at the register, even though it did work earlier at another store. It was the only card I had with me, so I told the gal I would just return the items. But then the older man behind me said I am paying for her and he did. Insisted on doing it. I wanted to hug him, but of course couldn't, so thanked him over and over. Every act of kindness like this restores my faith in my fellow human beings.
We must be kind to each other without question or judgment. Now and going forward.

Sad to think of all the four-legged fuzzies who stand to lose their best friends to COVID-19, and will end up in dire need of help. Glad somebody stepped up here. Makes me understand I haven’t been doing enough. I will do more, I promise.

And that is a restaurant I will proudly eat at once this thing is over
I'm just amazed that a CEO of a chain of restaurants, this large, only has a 6 figure salary. Even if it's in the high 6 figures, which I'm sure it is, that's surprising and the way wealthy people should behave. My husband works for a large hospital chain, the CEO gave himself a "raise" of 6 million last year. And the doctors, nurses, EVS personnel aren't getting so much as an extra dime to keep going into this warzone. Thank you Advocate Aurora.
This is humanity. What we are celebrating here is a tiny, tiny minority.

Can't people read the comments before commenting? I don't need 50 comments telling me he lost his home, 1 is enough :P
Or he is just a really nice person. You can't assume always that people have good parents as many of us don't. Bad parenting doesn't automatically make bad people either.

That's so sweet! I helped some elderly people find stuff in Walmart yesterday. I don't work there and an employee yelled at me for getting to close to people. I was wearing a face mask and giving people squirts of hand sanitizer after I helped them. Lol.
This doesn't surprise me. The Nepalese people are very generous and welcoming. If I had to be stuck somewhere, Nepal would be a pretty good place!
As a wise person once said: If I gave help, and someone lied or took advantage to get it, that's on them. But if I could help, and did not do so, well then that's on me.
Beautiful and unselfish. Be patient and wait your turn. Don't be greedy please.
Sadly those 'tourists' are western backpack beggars. They leave a first world country to "experience the world" and beg off of poor people in 3rd world countries. I hope these generous people don't get taken advantage of, how kind of this restaurant.
This is so beautiful. People are going back to the basics, helping others. This has been a good lesson for the Europeans governments having let most the manufacturers dislocate to China. Now we have shortage of so many vital goods. Hopefully the industries Will reopen here again.

A lot of us don't realize how important internet access is. The other day, bad storms blew through my town and knocked out not only my power but also my Internet service. Power was restored in a few hours, but I had to summon a technician to restore my Internet connection. Normally, I would go to the nearby library - walking distance, yay - and use their service; but thanks to COVID-19 they were closed so I had to mooch off a nearby McDonald's. I did buy some coffee there, though.

This is good, but it might not have everything needed. It might be good for isolation though!
Hey, why not? Anything to break up monotony, to make someone laugh who has been sad, to try it and see if you like it—-or hell, just for shits and giggles! If we all just lightened up the atmosphere a little, quarantine and social distancing won’t seem as bad, and won’t feel as tense, as they do now. For those who thought going to a crowded bar last week was the best way to thumb your nose at a pandemic, you’re wrong—-potentially dead wrong—-following the quarantine rules to a T, but still doing things like this, IS!

They said they had enough..but then said that the Sheriff's department had been running low on gloves and masks. Don't forget about first responders. Bosnia and Herzegovina. More discipline than 1st world countries
Not that we mind being called Serbia, but that is a picture of my city of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The picture was posted by our mayor to thank people for working with the city to contain the virus. We are actually doing good, people follow the rules a lot, not many are sick and people who lost their jobs or need help are being taken care of. Our government is, for once, doing a really good job.
@CbusResident for some reason it won't let me reply to you directly Yes, Bosnia has A LOT of problems. But: We all have health insurance. 1 year university tuition is equal to 1 month minimal wage earnings. Everyone can afford it. (Country itself finances 1/3 of students here, they pay like 50$ a year) Government pension is a right for all. Minimal wage is enough to live on, not very nicely but you won't be homeless or starve. Speaking of homeless we don't really have any. Housing is also a right and a least 80% of people own a property they live in. Not only are veterans take care of, but children of deceased once are too. Country finances them until they finish college. And now, even our crazy, corrupted, useless government has managed not to only do its job right, but to find some humanity on a personal level. Top officials are giving up 50% of their earning for those in need. I could go on, but yeah, I'll take my country over many others any time.
Former Yugoslavia, a region that suffered through so much pain in the past 30 years...
When I went to get groceries the other day at my local co-op, this is exactly what it looked like. It is on the smaller side, so they were only allowing a small number of customers inside at a time. There was a line like this outside the door, and a sign saying that if you are elderly or immunocompromised you can come to the front of the line.
Same as my country Greece, and that's why our cases are so low compared to neighbouring countries!

Load More Replies...Good for them! But it shouldn’t take a pandemic for basic needs to be met.
But in the state govt. budgets, how would that be paid for if that were done all the time? Do we as state taxpayers want to pay more taxes and/or cut other state govt. spending to accommodate the free daycare? I'd be willing to pay more state taxes for such arrangements to be in place, but we have to articulate that part of the equation too.

I hope this isn't a recent picture. There are way too many people in the store and they aren't keeping the right distance from the other shoppers.

Anyone who has to go their job is deemed essential in Aussie. They are all entitled to free childcare as of today

I wish the same spirit existed in every country. Here in Spain, the hospitals in some Autonomous Regions are on the verge of collapsing, but the neighbouring regions refuse to take patients from there. Crazy country. 17 Autonomous Regions, 17 different Health Services... People are dying and these stupid bureaucrats couldn't care less.

The most our complex is willing to do is to renew leases at the old rates instead of increasing them. Which is why, during this damn pandemic, I'm moving to a complex that's not associated with that leasing company.
You can move during the pandemic? We've pretty much been told to put a hold on all moving where possible. Renters are supposed to be able to arrange rolling monthly contracts until this is over. Even buyers have been told to hang-fire as it isn't fair to put removal firm staff at risk. Where possible it has all been stopped.

That was wonderful of those people, but how does it show there to be a God (or gods and goddesses - as billions of people also believe)? It shows that people can be benevolent, but boy do we all examples of how people can be awful, and we know people can be all things in between.
Annoys me a little bit that genuine human decency is attributed to God...give credit where credit is due, and credit is due to those lovely people that helped.

He’s not wearing his mask right... you need to fit it around your nose for full protection. Wear your masks right people, we need to slow this Pandemic!
Yup, you need to pinch that metal clip (can't see it, it's inside the mask) until it fits. Also someone just taught me this trick - if you have a small face and/or your mask keeps riding up, give the ear loops a twist before you put the mask on. It helps keep the top part down and make the bottom fit better. I really notice a difference.

Yes! I read this on a previous post and reallly wanted to see the duck drawing. Looks great!
I was getting tired of this comment appearing everywhere, but these are lovely ducks! And that frog is the best thing ever! 🐸
These don’t work the best, but they are still really good. I am making them for myself and my family.
my mom is doing this too! My grandma is scared, so mom is making her masks :)
After the UK nurse being in tears, this PR move is fine by me. Nurse only Packages at Grocery store
The Korean taco place we got takeout from gave us a roll of toilet paper with our meal
My neighbour Joe returning home from hospital, now part of the COVID-19 'recovered' stats!
That is super sweet...can you imagine that here in Belgium some nurses were kicked out of their shared homes by stupid roomates?
For a second I read "Dr. Strange', because he's just that much of a superhero
Woohoo!! My hometown!!! Dr. Strang is the Province of Nova Scotia Medical Officer!!!
The lady at our local pizza place left this message on our pizza!
A great way to have a "pub crawl" - no chance of a DUI or arrest for public intoxication.
I don't know why this doesn't have more votes its so sweet This is so rare most resturants will not take the time to write notes to their customures
If cats can do it, why can’t humans! (HOW DID A HUMAN TAKE THIS PHOTO?)
My amazing cousin! She normally works in the Telemetry (cardiac) unit of the hospital but they have her working the ICU. One of our local restaurants provided her shift with dinner through a GoFundMe page. I'm so proud of her and every healthcare worker
I have had these from being a welding inspector. I am currently on my way to take them to the hospital so they can use them. Since I am currently laid off I have been cleaning up my garage and found them. I wasn’t hoarding them, I just pick up a pack when I go to a new job because sometimes you go somewhere and they don’t have them. Your supplies are needed by others folks. We all have to chip in and do our part
Showing my ignorance, but what are they - mask parts? They look like tiny frisbees.
I think they're filters that clip onto the big respirators that some trades wear

Our local Laundromat has a free bookshelf - great way to read something that you wouldn't ordinarily.
This is one birthday party she will never forget, even if she forgets all the others.
That explains it!!! I and two of my step kids were having 'gym', i.e. teaching them how to walk the dogs, when we passed the parking lot of the school at the end of my block. There were 5-6 cars parked there with balloons and Happy Birthday signs. I thought someone was having a parking lot social distancing party or something. The kids even asked me again today what was going on. I wish I had known that this was what they were getting ready for... I would have joined the parade!
I actually read somewhere that an elderly priest in Italy refused a ventilator saying that the younger people still had lives to live. He died the next day.
Even better his flock had bought the ventilator for him, so not only did he refuse to use it, the hospital got a free ventilator
Load More Replies...Told not to in the UK. Walks from your home only. The concern being breakdowns or accidents.
I actually hadn't thought of that. It's a good thing to consider.

I Swedish company is borrowing our once again bankrupt factory to make free disinfecting for the nursinghome and stores. set up in 2 days and produced 800l at it and can now produce atleast 10k liter if needed. They are mainly using saltwater from what my dad told me and since we are in a fjord we will not be run out of that. Stay safe folks!
I cant share a photo because it's a sound. But on the 26th of March the whole of the UK stood outside at 8pm and clapped the NHS workers who are ABSOLUTE BOSSES every day and it was MAGICAL. You could hear the cheering and clapping ringing out in the air. Our NHS means the world to us, we hope there is change and its looked after better because of this x x x
Yes!!! Now every Thursday at 8pm until this is over. #clapforcarers

I have been right on edge with the tears, so close, so sad, the PTSD is horrible on top of "virus" world, reading stories like this is peaceful and gives hope.
I think i may have PTSD, and all this s**t makes me so anxious

If we take of each other and ourselves we will get through this. Take care of yourself, your family, and the people you come across and I will be praying for you.
My neighbours are really really old, and are in serious danger of this. Their kids have died, and one of them has cancer. The whole street (without realising the rest are doing it) has been dropping toilet paper, food, and notes on their doorstep. We all only realised that we were all doing it when one day they hadn’t picked it up yet. Now we have organised.
