My name is Jelena Mardere and I’m an artist from the Baltics.

Like many other parents during this lockdown, I have faced the daily struggle of trying to keep my little girl occupied all day at home. Since the schools are closed, we’re expected to homeschool our children while working from home – it’s not as easy as it seems, and you can’t even send your kid to stay over at their grandparents’ place!

For as long as I can remember, my 4 year old daughter Sophia’s dream has been to visit a FARM. She loves farm animals, particularly cows, pigs and horses. I was so excited when I booked a stay on a real working farm. You can’t imagine the heartbreak I felt telling Sophia that we had to change our travel plans thanks to the coronavirus outbreak.

So I decided to make the best out of the coronavirus travel restrictions, and rather than bringing Sophia to the FARM, I brought the FARM to Sophia instead! I set about constructing a toy barn for her to play with, complete with straw and farm animals. It went down a treat and she has spent lots of time playing with it since putting it together.

Now you can try it out too! Please check out my DIY Farm video which you can enjoy with your kids during the quarantine as well.
