Controversial Artist Chased Out Of Village

In 1911 Egon Schiele dreamed of leaving the constrictions of the staid Viennese art society, and set his sights on the village of Český Krumlov in southern Bohemia. Krumau was where his mother was born and today has a museum celebrating him. But even with family connections in Krumau, his attempt at a new life failed when he and his lover were chased out of the village by locals who were appalled at their lifestyle which included the acquisition of the villages’s teenage girls as nude models.
