Thank you. It's not the first time I, nor witnessed others, be shamed for wanting their own menstrual cycle business kept to themselves. As old-fashioned as it can be perceived, it's a choice, now. Oddly, it's often men who scold (it does come across in that tone) us about wanting our business kept private.

You're reading into what I said completely wrong. Where did I state periods are to be deemed as a "bad"? How about leaving it to women to have a choice of what she wants to be kept private, instead of guilting women into feeling ashamed for her choices just because you feel differently.

Upvoted. This is my perspective as well, although I doubt I'd have explained it nearly as well. Jane shouldn't have been gossiping or spread rumors, but I understand why she might have been less than happy or comfortable with this interaction. Some people are more private, independent or overall less comfortable with social engagement and would have preferred to be left alone and that is okay!

It's a workplace and women are protected against having to be treated differently and having to openly state when they're on their period. But the issue isn't that he was carrying those things on him. OP was uncomfortable with having to announce it to another co-worker and him telling another man to fetch her something she needs in private. He could have just told her where the supplies were, or let the women keep the products in the washroom so they wouldn't have to go to a man whenever they needed feminine products. Not saying OP is the whole problem in the situation. Jane did her own workplace harassment crime of spreading harmful rumors and causing alienation. The workplace also needs to be reviewed with health and safety for non-compliance of keeping necessary health and safety products on hand for employees.

...by allowing the women to put the products in the washroom for easy, discreet access. Now, Jane is not off the hook. She stepped over the line, not for going to HR with a concern, but because she spread harassing rumors and made OP uncomfortable, unsafe and alienated. You don't talk to people about private HR talks. You don't tell people to hate another co-worker just because you have an issue with them. OP should have gone to HR about the rumors, though. Now, this business needs to be held accountable by not supplying employees with basic health and safety supplies. Some regions don't require businesses to keep free feminine products, but wouldn't hurt to just keep them around. A first aid kit, though, is usually mandated. Again, this could be where OP is located. I'd say ESH, but lessons could have been learned.

Idk what the employment laws are like where OP is, but I'm just going to go off on what my workplace was recently briefed. I understand OP was trying to be generous and kind to his staff. Cool he offered free feminine products for those who need it. However, I do see how keeping feminine products in his backpack puts the women in potentially uncomfortable position of having to tell this man she's on her period. Some women are fine to be open about it. Not all women are comfortable with that, though. Jane may have felt uncomfortable and wanted to address the situation on her own. (It is unfair for others to assume her intentions of leaving are anything but what was stated, btw.) She's already stated why she needed to leave. Then a man telling another man to go fetch her, not only the feminine products but blurt out flow needs like that, it did cross a line into employee harassment. It's not anyone's business what her personal needs are. The situation could have been avoided by OP...

If a woman where I worked knew I was about to go out on a first date with a co-worker and she gave me a couple of condoms (without being suggestive or snarky about it) she'd certainly seem like a wise and caring person, and I'd consider her a friend.

I had a weeeeird one a few months back, came home late at night from partners dad bday bqq on the farm, I wanted to stop for milk at BP, a car sirens off with lights and pulls me over, I’m soooo confused at this point - for context I’m 40kgs and 150cm tall, this cop gets out of the car and I did too, out of confusion to ask if everything’s ok, and he’s like yeah just a random stop, then a paddywagon with two cops pull in next to him. I kinda of freak out inside but don’t let it show and ask ‘‘are you taking me to jail for something? I’m confused” he says “it’s just backup jsut in case” still not telling me anything. The guy i purchased the car off with rego, had the rego revoked by the owner after I paid and I didn’t know I was driving for 24hrs at that point unregistered. It still confuses me though why three very large men had to attend this, the car is/was in my name.

The level of fear felt by men and women of men is entirely different, though. I can appreciate that yes, we're often weary of other men, but to put it on the same level? That's just obnoxious. Most guys don't have to worry about people spiking their drink. They don't have to worry about someone grabbing their a*s grabbed on the bus. Men worry about getting beat up, m******d, and robbed, sure, but women still have to worry about that in addition to predatory behavior of an entirely different nature. And instead of getting martial arts training, get a damned weapon. We literally have sports divided into sexes due to the imbalance of physical strength, and the average MALE martial artist is still going to get his a*s whooped if someone decides to jump him. Doesn't have to be a gun or a knife, but ANYthing that could give you the edge in a fight. Nothing wrong with training for martial arts, but your attacker isn't going to come at you with just martial arts.

My mom said she was "shocked" there was a city and the urban area close to the mountains looks like Vancouver to her. She's not the most easily impressed and not an open-minded traveller. She didn't have much good things to say about her trip. I asked her, "What did you expect in this modern era? Grass huts and hula girls everywhere?" "...yeah." XD. Lots of big stores are all over the world now, though. I think the culture aspects, no matter where you are, are right under your nose. It's the different languages, slang, plants and animals, the geography, climate. Best thing to do is research recipes of local dishes and try to make them yourself. Exploring a grocery store in another country is interesting. You never know what you might find you don't see at your own grocery store.

Funny story. My now ex MIL had this cactus for years and was certain it was dying. It wasn't growing and turning brown. She gave it us. Within a matter of months the cactus started to lose the browning and began growing a bud that turned into another cactus. She couldn't understand why it was thriving at our place and not hers. Depends. I've learned there are people who will try to rob you of your spirit and rip away your thunder, then make you feel an inch tall. I started a job with all the confidence and high hopes I've had in over a decade. Within a week I felt like a little child who could not be trusted to do anything right. Maybe it works for different people. Maybe it's also how you dress and look. How articulate you are and how intelligent you come across.

Depends. Yes and no. If their circle is already small they'll be very careful how they present themselves to others they don't see as their scapegoat. If anything, they'll pull back from friends when they are not feeling like they can muster the will to pretend to care about others and be nice to those they don't like in public. Their public image is golden. What others think of them is more important than their own child's mental health and needs.

Since I work at a thrift store, we get know what each other's interests are. Any time we see something that has to do with a person's interest we show it to them. Some people, it takes time to get to know them because they're guarded or unsure of everyone. No one makes anyone feel like their immature or stupid for their character or interests. We have a bronie (a male who's a fan of My Little Pony), transpeople who love anything bright and unique, a Disney fanatic, anime and manga fans, a goth, health nuts, gamers, glam girls, and just neutral, ordinary people who are just there to do their job and get paid.
