Pictures and historical notes like these make me really sad. I don't know how many times I've read about soldiers on different sides of the conflict who said, "Under different circumstances they could've been my friends." Or, "They're actually just like us." War is decided by greedy, loud cowards who don't have the guts to go fight themselves but rather send other people there - often because of stupid, made-up "reasons" they have in their narrow, aggressive minds. It's a disgusting practice. And it goes on till today.
Pictures like this brings out my rage at people who deny the holocaust happened.
What blows my mind is that these women must have carried their children for much of the journey. The kids must have weighed them down, but also made them determined to reach safety, no matter what.
As a violinist, I find this photograph to be so exceptionally moving.

Heart-breaking. According to Joe O'Donnell, the photographer who took the picture, the child here is standing at attention. He has just brought his dead baby brother to be cremated.
That's not The Queen. She was an impersonator named Jeannette Charles who, to be brutally honest, more resembled Princess Margaret on a bad day than she did The Queen.

This is charming. When I think of the women wearing this traditional dress, I don't usually think of them laughing with their friends.
