Here’s How These 27 Child Actors From The ’90s And ’00s Changed From Their Iconic Roles
Child actors are a tricky subject—their first appearances can be the start of a successful career or their one and only shining star moment. And while some actors might drift away in the long run, the roles they took once will forever be immortalized on the silver screen, leaving us with fond memories that we can look back on. This time, let's take a look at some of the all-grown-up actors and how their career developed after their more-famous appearances. The focus will be placed on shows and movies from the 1990s to mid-2000s, taking a look at the iconic roles (who knows, maybe it's time for a marathon of oldie-but-goodie movies).

Mara Wilson As Matilda Wormwood In Matilda (1996)
Mara Wilson played Matilda Wormwood, a curious and talented young girl, in Matilda (1996). Wilson became well-known for this role, but in 2000, she retired from acting for a while. After she finished university, she made a slow comeback, lending her voice to variety of projects.
I hate when people say they finished university. I know of no one other than foreigners that use this. You might say you went to a specific university or finished your degree at that university, but not went to (generic unnamed) university.
Georgie Henley As Lucy Pevensie In The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe (2005)
Georgie Henley played Lucy Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) and its two sequels. Lucy was just a young girl who was transported into a magical world with her siblings, and for a long time, Henley was known for this role alone. Lately, she re-appeared in The Spanish Princess.
Oml yes I rewatched the trilogy a few days ago... both Georgie and Skandar (Edmund) grew up so fast in just 5 years and Narnia is one of the few movies that did the books a little justice 😁
Joseph Gordon-Levitt As Tommy Solomon In 3rd Rock From The Sun (1996-2001)
Joseph Gordon-Levitt played Tommy Solomon in 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996-2001). Gordon-Levitt struck gold with the role of an extraterrestrial living on Earth, and after that, he successfully transitioned to more mature roles. He displayed leanings towards music, with several singles under his belt, and currently he owns HitRecord, an online collaborative media platform.
I LOVED Tommy Solomon - all precocious cuteness and that long hair! The entire cast was phenomenal, but JGL and John Lithgow really made the show for me. I hated when it came to an end.
No mention of a leading role in Inception, one of the best films (so far) of this century? Don Jon? Looper? The Dark Knight Rises?
JGL is an interesting dude. There’s a really fun clip of him on YouTube of him jamming with Reggie Watts and his amazing ‘fro: https://youtu.be/MwBA-0hoRwg
I loved 3rd Rock and I loved Joseph as Tommy. I also loved French Stewart as Harry.
We all know how Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks like, I mean he is famous.
Christina Ricci As Wednesday Addams In The Addams Family (1991)
Christina Ricci played Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (1991) and its sequel. The gloomy, loveable character was her breakout role and she proceeded towards more mature films, such as Sleepy Hollow (1999). She won plenty of awards for her roles as a child actress, and she's known to lend her voice to various animated projects.
I love the movies so much, including the new cartoon version. I got all the Funko Pops of the movies..........some are too cute and funny!
Christina Ricci had TONS of plastic surgery done. She isn't recognizable as her old self.
Not sure what photos you're talking about, but she certainly looks like herself in those I've seen.

He also has experience in Broadway plays and musicals. Harris wrote his first novel, which was released in 2017, and even had time to release a single-player board game named Box One in 2020.
NPH for the win! The guy can act, sing, dance and is funny as all heck. And he seems like a nice person (if you believe the entertainment reporters)
I love that the streaming services (many of the free ones) FINALLY realized that there are generations still appreciating the clean, family-friendly humor and drama of 80's & 90's (heck, add the 60's & 70's too) TV and Movies. There is so much more fun to share with the grandkids without worry.
He’s an awesome actor. He pulled off Barney so well I was shocked when I found out he was gay irl
I used to think he played the oldest brother in Malcolm in the middle. They so look alike.
Haley Joel Osment As Cole Sear In The Sixth Sense (1999)
Haley Joel Osment played Cole Sear, a boy who could see ghosts, in The Sixth Sense (1999). This role was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards, and established Osment as a credible actor. He later appeared in more well-known movies such as Pay It Forward (2000) and A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001). Osment lends his voice to the video game character Sora from Kingdom Hearts in its English dub.
I’m sorry. Why is the movie that got nominated for an Oscar less well known than “A.I. Artificial Intelligence?” Since when isn’t “The Sixth Sense” a well-known movie? And why am I posting something on Bored Panda?

Jonathan Lipnicki As Ray Boyd In Jerry Maguire (1996)
Jonathan Lipnicki played Ray Boyd in Jerry Maguire (1996). He also appeared in Stuart Little and its sequel. Taylor Lautner As Sharkboy In The Adventures Of Sharkboy And Lavagirl In 3-D (2005)
Taylor Lautner played Sharkboy in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D (2005). Before he was a werewolf in a vampire romance story, Lautner played the titular Sharkboy, a superpowered young boy who—surprise surprise—had to save the world from the bad guys with his partner in crime!

Nicholle Tom played Ryce in Beethoven (1992) and its sequel, as well as lent her voice to the animated series. She also played Maggie Sheffield in The Nanny (1993-1999). Tom also had some episodic appearances in variety of shows and movies.
I would have recognized her more from her role on the Nanny than in Beethoven.
She always somehow looked to me like a nice person. Can she play the villain, she always looks so nice.
She somehow looks older in the left picture, lol (like those old school photos where kids look like grandmas/grandpas)
You gotta figure that the first pic is 29 years ago.... The second is much more recent. Likely this year.

Foy is still starring in lots of movies... LOL is it just me or does everyone sort of envy her adorable freckles?

Matthew Lawrence played Chris Hillard in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) alongside Robin Williams. Lawrence played the son of a father who pretended to be a nanny in order to fix his family situation. The actor was also known for this role in the TV series Boy Meets World.

You could have chose better picture of her: temp-60473...38fed6.jpg
There are more recent, and much better, pictures of her they could’ve used.
Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen As Michelle Tanner In Full House (1987-1995)
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen played Michelle Tanner in Full House (1987-1995). The twins actually played a single girl, mostly to comply with the child labor laws regarding working hours because they started filming at 9 months old. They appeared in their own show later on, and now are prominent names in the fashion industry.
The thing about them is they didn't want to be acting, that's why they aren't now
I think there mother forced them to, just like Michael Jackson's dad! :(
Load More Replies...Ok, this may be stupid to say, but I never knew that Elizabeth Olsen was their younger sister! I always thought she was older than the twins! But Mary-Kate and Ashley are 34 and Elizabeth is only 32!
I only new Mary Kate and Ashley, never knew any of their siblings

He performed some of his own stunts and even won an award for his performance, and while he continued acting, the actor never reached his previous level of fame.
Why are such weird pictures being used for the "now" shots? In this one he looks like a junky, but in a lot of other pictures he looks pretty good...

You could have found a better photo of Noah as an adult, like this one. noah-604da...c81e53.jpg
Okay, first: before y'all judge, he's 49 and he turns 50 this year. You're comparing his, uhm I guess his mug shot to his teenage head shot. Very few people are going to 'glo up' under that comparison. And second, who selected this picture for the now?! This looks like his mugshot after being hit by a meth truck. A brief google search can easily find more flattering pictures. Please replace. This is depressing and unnecessary.
Lindsay Lohan As Annie And Hallie In The Parent Trap (1998)
Lindsay Lohan played Annie and Hallie in The Parent Trap (1998). Lohan played two separate characters, the separated twins who try to reunite their parents. After her breakthrough, the actress had a steady list of appearances in movies and shows, and even released several albums in early 2000's. Lohan didn't have a smooth transition to more mature roles and had to deal with health problems, but currently, the actress seem to be making a steady comeback.
Am I the only one who doesn't think it's her? Not kidding, where are all her freckles face and neck?
Makeup??? Idk I looked it up and that picture of her was not there sooooo
Load More Replies...Really?! REALLY?! They pick the worst pictures for people who didn't struggle with addiction and ruining their careers over but they pick this straight up glamour shot for her. Wtf
"health problems"? Is that the new term for "substance abuse"? Sure, she's had asthma and some kidney issue but it's her drug and alcohol abuse that's ruined her career.
Who wrote the caption ? Lindsay Lohan never had health problems but instead a very thick police report, including various arrests for driving while intoxicated. She became bulimic due to the constant scrutiny of the media and cinema biz: she went auditioning for roles and during that period (2006-2014), more than recently, she was rejected instantly simply for being Lindsay Lohan. Also, she isn't making a steady comeback at all. Probably in the media (read: her social media accounts and some tv interviews). Sporadic tv movie roles and few voice overs doesn't make up for a comeback at all. She indeed ruined herself with her own hands.
Why was the worst possible picture chosen for Noah Hathaway, but the best possible for Lindsay Lohan? Is that even her?
SHE. IS. NOT. A. tRaInWrEcK!!!!!!!! @#$* u @#$&!#$%@%$#

I cried so hard when she came out from that barn. I can still remember Carol reaction.
And my question once again: how did Sophia end up in that barn? Who put her there with all the search teams looking during those dramatic two days?
My guess is she was attacked by walkers while running away from the 'herd' and ended up in Hershel's barn possibly mere hours after it happened (found and brought back by Otis, but then on the medicine run for Carl, Otis was killed by Shane). The gang only came across the farm because Carl was shot, and it was a while after that before Shane went nuts and opened up the barn doors. There were so many walkers in there, I doubt Hershel and his family even knew. Even if they did, they were keeping the walkers-in-the-barn a secret :(

The current photos for most of these people were bad. I mean, bad angle, bad lighting, weird close-ups. I don’t expect them all to be supermodel pretty in every picture, but these were not good pictures.
My heart goes out to some of these child actors, a lot of talent, but so much pain. not really getting to experience childhood and innocence. Being constantly judged and over sexualized by adults. I couldn't imagine how rough these people must have had it, only to be crushed by the same industry as they grow up.
No wonder they turned to substance abuse. Look what happened to Jack Wilde after Oliver! and H R Puff n Stuff.

you violeta--why pic terrible "now" pics for so many of them? it would be nice if you did a little digging and had some text giving an update on their lives.
Are some of these really "then & now" material? Are people really wondering what Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylor Lautner or Neil Patrick Harris looks like today? Lautner hasn't been on screen since 2018 sure, but the other two have worked until today & have multiple projects in development.
I wonder what happened to “Buster” in Blues Brothers 2000. Hope he has a nice musical career.
I started feeling old the day I got out of bed, and my ankle started hurting.
To whoever wrote this article: PLEASE do better job next time picking pictures! You chose very unflattering pictures for some and that is wrong. I'm not sure if you don't like them or what but do better research.
