Parents Break The Law To Treat Kids With Cannabis

Cerebral palsy remains an incurable disorder, and the symptoms range from mild spastic movements to severe seizures and the inability to control limbs. While there’s no cure, scientists focus on treating the symptoms. Research on links of medical marijuana and cerebral palsy is still limited, but findings suggest that it offers a host of benefits (including pain control, reduction of spastic movements and seizures, and more). However, medical marijuana is legal in only 29 U.S. states (and DC), so its use and further research are restricted by government regulations. One of the places where it’s still illegal is Texas. The Texas Compassionate Use Act was signed into law on June 1, 2015, by Governor Greg Abbott but it appears the state might not implement the medical marijuana program it passed. A major obstacle to establishing the program in Texas is that the state law requires doctors to write a prescription for the medical marijuana. Since marijuana is still federally illegal and a controlled substance, doctors can’t legally write a prescription for it. This video by Kara Zartler was released to advocate for medical cannabis in Texas, and we can clearly see why.

Who wouldn't break the law to stop their child from injuring themselves. You did a good thing.
Hans, I think the downvote is, why shouldn't parents be free to try it and see if it helps their child, without having to break the law? Yes, research, but also it's time to recognize our attitudes towards drugs are very conflicted.

There have been many people who tried to improve treatment but had no idea. The video shows anecdotal advise. While I agree that I would surely break the law to help my own family, medical regulations are there to prevent harm. So, while the intention is honorable, the move is still questionable. What if the self-treatment turns out to be harmful after a while?
Aside from this story presenting anecdotal evidence. Medical use of marijuana has been proven to work! It's already being used to treat chronic seizures, PTSD, chronic pain and many other conditions. Scientist have yet to discover any major side effect of prolonged use either. Your point is moot. Stop argue against something that truly helps people!
@Jackie: people like it simple and obviously assume that I speak against medical maihuana. How could I, given studies that argue otherwise? I argue against the fallacy of judging single cases to be evidence for a causality. Self-prescription and uncontrolled drugs have causes harm beyong measure in the past. And many of these were supposwdly tested.by pharma companies. Thus, do not likely say "it works"for a specific ailment if a single video appears.

To add to that, I find it very questioable to facilitate anecdotal evidence. Rather, a side like Bored Panda should rally for medical research!
sometimes you have downvotes. Nobody have the entire truth. For example i always wonder why pple upvote pictures with nude its my opinion
Everyone rallies against fake news, disinformation etc. And I get downvotes for merely saying that by havong a viedeo from few cases in one person of self-drug administering having a positive effect, one should not conclude it is advisabke on general. Oh dear.
I'm an RN who has never tried pot, but, these are responsible parents . Pot helps C.P. most seizure disorders , M.S. , & other afflictions & should be prescribed by physicians for them. My internist is a strong believer in Pot for chronic pain , too
I knew someone who used for chronic pain. It helped. But I live in Texas and obey the law, damn me...
Its just a plant, like Coffee.
Hans , each person should be responsible to choose whats better for her life, if this stuff doesnt hurt another being.I gues thats the initial stuff to an aewsome society for everyone. Hugs, bub.
Agreed. This child is NOT going to "Drive under the influence" or "operate heavy machinery"... just gets relief from pain for a while..
So are plants with scopalomine, but in larger than a medical dose, it's an insidious drug that can kill. And how about rhubarb and oleander ... make a tea of the leaves of either and you may never wake up again.

There are many plants that are highly poisonous!
We're not using those plants. The marajuana plant is not poisonous. Stop being a troll.

Troll? I am not the one making a too generalized comparison! The Cannabes family of plants has little to do with coffee plants. Saying that the products from canabis are safe, because cooffee is safe,is thus oversomplifying. Besides, caffeine on large amounts provenly is pretty bad.
