The Season 4 finale of Starz hit ‘Outlander’ series tied up some loose ends, but also created some others. The show follows a time-traveling 20th century doctor Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and her 18th century Highlander husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) in colonial America.

In one of the storylines late this season, audiences were introduced to Wahkatiiosta (pronounced Wah-GIAH-dee-OHsda), a Mohawk warrior woman wary about letting others, including Claire and Jamie, around her people. She later proves essential to them, not only leading an attack but also relaying Otter Tooth’s warning about the white man and becoming the bearer of the sacred stone. They eventually get caught and Wahkatiiosta is banished forever from her tribe.

Wahkatiiosta is portrayed by Canadian-based actress Carmen Moore. She has been bringing interesting characters to life for over 25 years. Most notably, she won 3 Leo Awards and garnered a Canadian Screen Awards nomination for starring as Leona Stoney in five seasons of APTN’s multi-award winning ‘Blackstone’. She also starred as Loreen Cassway for three seasons of the CBC’s ‘Arctic Air’ with Adam Beach, earning her another Leo Award nod. Since then Carmen has recurred on ‘Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce’, ‘Arrow’, ‘iZombie’, ‘Chesapeake Shores’ and ‘Second Chance’.

Up next, Carmen can be seen in the dramatic indie film ‘Rustic Oracle’, which tells the story of a mother’s grief and resolve to find her missing daughter.

Interesting Fact: Carmen received the Lorena Gale Woman of Distinction Award at the 2013 UBCP/ACTRA Awards for her contribution to the empowerment of women in the Vancouver Film Industry.
