Nearly one month ago, a 33-year-old Marvel fan named Alexander posted on Reddit about his wish to see an early screening of their newest movie Avengers: Endgame – and the reason behind his wish left many users in tears. Alexander confessed that he is terminally ill and he may not be alive when the movie hits the theatres in April. Alexander had no idea that him asking for the early movie screening movie would spiral into a viral campaign that even caught Chris Hemsworth’s attention.
Alender revealed that he was a very healthy man up until his devasting mouth cancer diagnosis in 2017. He was 32 years old at the time, the same age his sister died from leukemia and left behind her 4-year-old daughter. Only a year later after the first cancer diagnosis, he received the shocking news about cancer is in his liver. Only three months later tests revealed that Alexander suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Fanconi Anemia. This disorder is responsible for his cancers and probably his sister’s too. The worst news is – the disorder makes him sensitive to chemotherapy – a treatment that could extend his life.
Here’s what Alexander wrote in his post
This tragic story didn’t go unnoticed. People couldn’t hide how moved they were by this story and united to get Marvel’s attention. With the help of kind strangers on the internet, Alexander’s wish was granted. After that someone messaged him saying they know Chris Hemsworth, the actor who plays Thor, and promised they would reach out to him and Alexander received an email from Disney. While the arrangements for the screening are still being made, it’s clear that people at Disney are working on making Alexander’s dream come true!
