42 Incredible Cakes By Julie Simon That Are Difficult To Believe Are Made Entirely Out Of Sugar
Inspired by Dutch painters and iconic artists such as Chagall and Klimt, Julie Simon transfers this richness and intricacy to her own canvas, which is cake. Her ornate and lush cakes resemble famous paintings and exquisite flower bouquets that look too real to eat. You’d probably want to rather put these masterpieces on your windowsill or hang them on your wall if they were not made entirely out of sugar. These are the cakes with a real "wow factor," and they will please your eyes before your taste buds!
“I have been baking since I was a little girl. My parents are great cooks, but they didn’t bake, so that fell to me. I loved trying out delicious recipes and making them look pretty. I have been a visual artist my whole life and work in many media. But I didn’t think about putting the two things together until a trip to London over 20 years ago. I visited Harris’s famous food hall and fell in love with the intricately designed lace confections. I soon began to teach myself how to make sugar flowers from whatever books I could get my hands on—there weren’t many back then! Over the years, I’ve continued to challenge myself to make more daring and elaborate designs. The bigger the challenge, the better!” the artist told Bored Panda.

There is an excellent movie about the "discovery" and "recovery" of this masterpiece. It was stolen by the Nazis in WWII and ended up in a German museum. Finally, the woman, the last surviving member of her family recovered the painting. Excellent story, beautiful painting: "The Woman in Gold."

Imagine telling Jan Brueghel the elder or any other flower painting Renaissance bro that this is actually cake, not flowers.

Beautiful representation of an Asian garden! The intricate layering of each important detail from the crystals to the bark, cherry-blossoms and humming birds - great balance of texture and tones. Textbook approach with an artistic flair.

Getting that deep blue and red in the flowers with still a hint of tonality and depth is fantastic. Great sugar-work!

Lovely how she picked up the tones in the intricate sugar-flowers and recreated them in the hombre icing effect dark to light.

Fantastic light colors to balance out the earthiness of the gritty stone-like effect.

Elaine Mattingly needs to calm down on the criticism. These are beautifully breathtaking.

Zoe Snyder, I was thinking just that! She doesn't have to order one. They aren't necessarily what I'd order, but there's no denying that they are magnificent.
