Spring is in the air and in your hair, so we do understand that committing yourself to grandiose cooking projects might be a bit too hard for the concentration levels available. Don’t worry though, as we have created the easiest and the cutest bunny buns recipe to charm your family or yourself with.

Prep time – around 2 hours and 30 minutes, most of it spent reading a book or watching a movie

Cooking time – 25 minutes

Step 1

RELATED:

    Yeast Starter

First things first – to make the perfect dough for your bunny buns, you’ll have to make a yeast starter. To do that you’ll need dry yeast, sugar, and a half cup of warm water (not boiling, or you might scald the leaven). Combine these ingredients in a bowl and leave the starter to rise, which will take about 15 minutes. Also, make sure to use a large enough bowl or else your rising east will grow too big and ooze onto your kitchen counter.

    Step 2

    Making Dough

Start by putting the eggs and sugar in a bowl and whisk the mixture until the consistency is even. Take another bowl with wheat flour, make a dent in the middle and pour your whisked eggs there. The dent in the middle makes the kneading a bit less messy later. After placing the eggs into the flour, put your risen yeast on top, roll it out and knead it into a ball.

    Step 3

    Waiting!

Cover up the bowl with dough with a clean kitchen towel and place it somewhere warm (kitchen counter works fine). Wait for two hours – that’s how much is needed for the dough to settle before cooking it.

    Step 4

    Sweet Potatoes

There’s no way we would skip any of the vegetable goodness in this recipe! Now, take your medium-sized sweet potato and strip the peel. Chop it into three or four equal parts lengthwise, and then cut it into little triangle shapes resembling carrots that will later be added to your bunny buns.

    Shaping The Bunny

When you’re done cutting potatoes and reading a book while waiting for the dough to settle, it is time to shape those bunnies. After rolling out the ball of dough into a cylinder, cut it into eight pieces and then carefully make some bunny parts out of it. You’ll need four longer pieces for bunny ears and arms, an oval for its body, a ball for the head and two smaller balls for legs. You don’t have to worry about the dough changing its shape much after cooking it as it won’t rise anymore in the oven. Now, put the pieces together in a bunny shape, place a triangle of sweet potato onto the bunny’s chest and fold its arms lovingly on top of it. Voila, you have your bunny!

    Baking And Decorating

After shaping your bunny buns, you’ll need to bake them for around 25 minutes at 360 degrees Fahrenheit/180 degrees Celsius until they’re golden and your kitchen smells like you live at the best bakery in the town.
Take your cute critters out, wait until they’re cool and unleash your creativity by adding parsley to your sweet potato carrot and painting on the faces with an edible marker. That’s it!
P.S.: If you don’t have an edible marker at hand, you can use royal icing or improvise with sprinkles and edible seeds. And though a cake decoration marker might sound a tough thing to find, look for it in any baking supply store!
