Yep!! Seen this before (not on this scale tho). Once when we were camping, we had these idiots next to us. When they were asleep we snuck some fish scraps into their tent. In my defence, they had run over a kiwi, and they were absolute a**holes.

Seriously though, I'm sure they didn't do anything that many a kiwi hasn't all ready done here. Plenty of dumped rubbish on our roadsides, shoplifters and scam artists. The difference is, they are a big group and were too stupid to stop once caught on tape and made infamous for it. They've been here since the end of November, but managed to stay unnoticed by most until the video came out near mid-January. Apparently they were leaving today. There's a flight you wouldn't want to be on. Latest news is that on Sunday they booked a motel for 3, then put the whole family in there. Left a mess when caught, then returned the next day, sending in a different family member to try (unsuccessfully this time) to get a room. How do people live like this?!

"it seems"...Martha, let me tell you a secret: the large majority of the Rom, or Romaní that live in Romania do not even want to integrate.Starting with the basic point that the name Rom/Romaní is requested by each one of them. "I am Rom, not Romanian". That is and will be their answer as long as they are in Romanian territory. There's between three or four types of gypsies/travellers, each one of them focusing on different things, and identifiable through their clothing. All of them look down at each other and even lower down to the non-rom. Registering kids with the council is something more from the last decade or two. Even with waiving the registration fees for the Rom it didn't work. "we are travellers, free spirits, this is only to control us". Heck, by their own mentality/habits, girls going to school for more than a couple of years (reading / writing /basic maths) was unheard of until recent. How can you integrate someone that works actively against your efforts? Fines won't work, benefits won't either, what's left?

@Martha, I'm Bulgarian and we face the same problems as Romanians. I'm sure they've done plenty to integrate them, but it to limited results. They get money from various social programs (and back in communist times there was an attempt in one of our cities to get them out of the filthy illegal and unstable houses they live in by bulding apartment buildings and giving them the apartments for free; they just thrashed them), local and european, and the results are barely existan. Instead it's the opposite - they've learned they don't have to do honest work to get money.

“A massive generalization” are you joking. Travelers are filthy. They nearly always leave dirt and filth everywhere the go. They flaunt the law and cause havoc everywhere. Yes, a few, are ok, but they are very few and far between. In general travelers are a nuisance to society and they are getting more aggressive and violent because people are afraid of them. That young kid is going to grow up to be a lovely person isn’t he.

She was literally doing the opposite of generalizing by speaking about the travellers in her area who act the same way.

I completely agree that you need to treat everyone as an individual and do your best not to just slap a label on people, the stereotype is embedded in our culture and hugely difficult to shift as a society. Great principle, but every individual can be judged on the basis of their actions. It is no one else's fault when someone is aggressive, rude and vandalised everywhere they go. Their ethnic group cannot excuse their actions is that case, although they will try to use discrimination as an excuse. And before anyone asks, I am referring to a few individuals I met myself. I also know a couple of 'settled travellers' who lead law-abiding, honest lives, for whom I have the greatest respect. Treat them as individuals.

Yes I agree a massive generalization however are you denying that these people aren’t the average British citizen and dint come from the travelling community because I would certainly class them as such.
