Interview With ExpertIt’s not surprising that some people literally hate their workplace and do it just for the money. From a hostile work environment to office politics, anything can trigger this hatred. But being stuck with a toxic manager is one major reason. The fact that a movie was made about it (Horrible Bosses) speaks volumes.
One man went online to share how his cruel boss crossed many boundaries, constantly harassed him, and also owed him money. Finally sick of the torment and of not getting his money back, the employee pulled off the most epic revenge, wrecking the boss’s life. Scroll down to find out what he did!
Sometimes, bosses get away with their toxic shenanigans
But this man went nuclear on his boss for harassing him and refusing to pay back the money he had borrowed
Being harassed by a boss can have long-term consequences for employees
Cruel bosses drain all the fun out of a workplace. But gone are the days when many people suffered through their boss’s toxic behavior in silence. According to LinkedIn’s Workforce Confidence survey, 7 in 10 U.S. workers say they would leave a job if they had a bad manager. Younger employees strongly share this sentiment, as 75% of Gen Z workers and 77% of millennials say a bad boss would motivate them to look for a new job, compared to 68% of Gen Xers and 61% of baby boomers.
To better understand how such managers can affect an employee, Bored Panda reached out to Apoorva Kale, an industrial and organizational psychology practitioner, for an interview. She stressed that workplace harassment is more common than many people believe.
She pointed out that, as per the 2026 Traliant report, nearly 4 in 10 employees (38%) report witnessing workplace harassment in the past five years, and 21% of employees say they have been direct targets. Men are more likely than women to report witnessing harassment (41% versus 36%), while women are more likely than men to report experiencing harassment firsthand (22% versus 19%).
Apoorva highlighted that it can hit extremely hard as it threatens stability. “And when the workplace environment becomes unsafe, employees can feel unable to escape,” she continued. “When people stay in such settings longer than they should, it can trigger an internal conflict that worsens the emotional toll.”
When we spoke to our expert about the impacts of harassment, she claimed that the effects can start quickly and might last a lifetime. She noted that employees might experience stress, anxiety, and depression. But in some severe cases, it can even lead to PTSD, sleep problems, fatigue, and weakened immunity due to chronic stress.
Organizations should take responsibility for creating safe workplaces
Apoorva also mentioned how overwhelming it can be for employees to work with a boss who has been physically inappropriate with them. “Victims often report immediate reactions like fear, which can lead to reluctance to return to work, difficulty concentrating, long-term productivity issues, and missed advancement opportunities.”
“Also, when someone in charge is the harasser, it can really degrade an employee’s self-confidence over time. Because of this sense of powerlessness, they might hesitate to speak up or take on new challenges at work. Slowly, it can even dig into their personal life. They can doubt themselves all the time, and might even withdraw from friends and family,” Apoorva added.
Having said that, she strongly believes it’s the organization’s responsibility to create a safe workplace where employees don’t have to face such harrowing experiences. Employers must set up a complaints committee that functions effectively. Moreover, Apoorva suggested conducting awareness campaigns, establishing anti-harassment policies, and training employees and leaders regularly.
“It’s important to build a culture of transparency and comply with the local laws against the culprits. After all, a zero-tolerance approach to harassment is the bare minimum that companies must offer,” our expert concluded.
In this case, many netizens cheered the author for teaching his extremely creepy boss a lesson. However, a few felt that he enabled the manager’s behavior by agreeing to lift weights together, going to his house, and giving him money. They also said he should have confronted him and asked him to stop before plotting revenge. Which side of the commentators would you choose? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!
