Body Yoga Art

For more than 10 years, Saskia Hoek and Iepke Seebregts have been working together as Corpus Colori (Dutch: Gekleurd Naakt). These two Dutch artists are friends who share a passion for painting and travel and an interest in different cultures. They are specialized in creating fascinating works of art by painting the human body; these temporary masterpieces are ‘immortalized’ by a professional photographer. In 2015, they came up with the idea of a yoga calendar: painting models in different postures, with patterns and designs loosely based on the four seasons. “Yoga and body paint are just a perfect combination’,” says Iepke. “The beauty of the human body is exemplified by the amazing yoga postures of the models – all yoga teachers – and further accentuated by the intricate designs we apply to their skin.”

“It was a time-consuming job to come up with the right designs that would perfectly fit each model’s favourite yoga posture in terms of mood, colour and pattern. The different seasons and the beauty of the lines and organic shapes and forms in nature were our main inspiration”, Saskia adds.

It takes a whole day to complete just one body painting. Despite feeling tired at the end of a long day there is a real sense of satisfaction: “The best moment is when we sit down with the model to take a look at the photos and we feel that our photographer Vincent Basler has managed to capture the perfect image where aesthetics, colours and posture are in total harmony with each other.”
