Photographer Challenges ‘American Beauty’ Standards With 14 Women Of All Shapes
2.2Mviews
San Francisco-based photographer Carey Fruth has set out to redefine what ‘American beauty’ is with a photo series of the same name that has women of all body types posing in romantic beds of flower petals. Fruth was inspired by a racy scene from the 1999 movie of the same name in which Kevin Spacey fantasized about one of his daughter’s friends.
“By stepping into a fantasy dream girl world and by letting go of that fear, they free themselves up to direct that energy they once wasted on telling themselves that they weren’t good enough to elsewhere in their life,” Fruth told Huffpost.

I really liked this, it was lovely. And these women are incredibly brave. I'm not sure I have the ovaries to do a project like this.
I like how you said "ovaries" as opposed to the conventional "balls" :D
Oddly enough, not the first time I've heard the phrase used in that context. But then, I seem to have a lot of lesbians and feminists in my life, and yeah, they have big. Wonking. Ovaries. of STEEL.
i like it too! :D balls are fragile as opposed to the V :P that thing can give birth! :D so KUDOS to the ovaries comment
I have to sign in with my profile, only for that I really want to say 'I Like Your Comment'!
Ovaries is a new one! But as Betty White once said: “Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.”

Uh, I'm a woman and I didn't understand a thing they said so NO KUDOS TO YOU!!!
It's beautiful but I wish that they show the cellulite and stretch marks too.
Second woman has stretch marks, third has cellulite.
And your point is???
"And?" She said she wished they showed that. They did.
...and?
you girls worry too much.....
This 80 year old all-male believes the photography was beautiful. Typical that all the negative comments derive from envy, jealousy and are typical of the small minded.
No body hair. None. Not one single one of these women seem to be interested in letting their body be. These pictures are not challenging enough. Body hair is still forbidden/seen as unattractive/taboo and the so-called 'beauty' companies are raking in millions as women still feel the 'need' for hair removal.
I see stretchmarks, cellulite, bra scars and normal scars. Enlarge the pictures, or visit your optometrist.
What about body hair?
Look again..they're there
HOW TRUE!!!
I feel like the point of this was to show women naturally, however it still appears as if all their stretch marks and scars have been airbrushed away.
As a fat woman, I know these are Photoshopped because there are no stretch marks or bra grooves.
When you do a nude photoshoot you aren't allowed to wear underwear/jeans/tight fitting clothes for 24-48hours before so there wouldn't be any marks. Not saying they aren't photoshopped but you wouldn't expect to see clothes marks xx
im fat and i have no stretchmarks even after having a baby. butyes it does look like they have been airbrished more than photoshopped id say. theres no imperfections on there skin but you can see one omans stretchmarks quite clearly. they all look fab anyway
As much as it adds to the gloss of the photos to use photoshop, as Im sure they've done, not everyones skin even gets stretch marks. That is apparent after pregnancies, where some women get the marks and others don't.
Thanks I thought I was the only one with bra grooves that stayed on my skin!
You are wrong cause i can see stretch marks on one of the womens.
I can clearly see Stretch Marks on a few of them - and they are beautiful, each and every one of them xx
Artists' models often disrobe an hour or two before they pose. I'm a former art student, and marks like that would be very distracting. We had a heavy woman model for us too.
I tho only me got bra grooves
and they are wearing make-up. so, i don' t think that is the point. i think the point is to show how women who don't necessarily fit the "norm", can still look beautiful. but i would like to take this opportunity to say that women tend to worry way too much about the way they look. i can promise you that there is a man for every one of these women. beauty is in the eye of the beholder.....
I was with you until "there is a man for every one of these women". You make it sound like getting the sexual attention of a man it's the goal of every woman and the proof of her worth. Second, you're assuming they're all straight.
As someone who actually uses Photoshop, that's exactly what I was thinking. Gotta laugh at all these "experts" saying this is legit because they can see a stretch mark... Smh.
You drunk or something ? Ofc they use Photoshop or whatever program to make the skin smoother with texturer and colour etc, what i was pointing out was that Morgan wargner said * there are no stretchmarks or bra groves and she was wrong in one aspect, the woman on the second picture still shows stretchmarks on her stomach and legs, dont try to act smart it only makes yourself look like a fool Martina cause i dont attack anyone i just pointed out the stretchmarks and you had to be defensive and try to personal insult me, you lack respect cause i reffered too the visibel stretchmarks not someones ability too see and use Photoshop mr smartass
And heavily photoshopped
If that's Lady Monster in the second to last pic, hoo BOY has it been p'shopped to death (she has many tattoos, which I've seen during the many Big Burlesque performances she has done).
That second to last photo is a man with a covered penis and wearing a red wig.
Nothing natural about these pictures.
I was in awe of most of these women's flawless skin. Perhaps there's a stretch mark here and there - but no one has moles, freckles, scars? It's rare to see that (I have and I was in awe of that woman!).
You can definitely see stretch marks on some of these, what are you even on about?
No if you look on the second picture you can clearly see stretchmarks on the stomach and thighs of that woman so you are wrong there Shannon.
shes right, you can clearly see stretch marks on the second photo. Not saying the rest/all of them arent photo shopped, because they are, but you can see them. Sometimes photoshop cant get everything out without making them contorted.
Sweetheart, have you ever used photoshop? Do you know how to make one's skin appear smooth? No? Stop attacking those who do. Chances are they know more than you.
