Woman’s Facebook Post Perfectly Sums Up The Joy Childfree Life

Community member
The Motherhood Challenge on Facebook “challenges” mothers to post photos that make them feel proud to be a mother, and to tag other women they think are great mothers. However, not all women are thrilled by what some see as another attempt to put pressure on women to “be” a certain way. That’s why 32-year-old English comedian Ellie Taylor, who has no kids, replied with pictures of her napping with a wine bottle when she found herself tagged in this “challenge.”
“Non-Motherhood Challenge: I was nominated by myself to post five pictures that make me happy to be a non-mother,” Taylor wrote on Facebook, adding, “Such special memories.” What are your thoughts on the challenge?

What do you think ?
It's bizarre how much hate a satirical post like this can get. (Seen several sites + comments where this has been reposted) And she probably just took pictures of her sleeping because a lot of mothers say they couldn't sleep much because the kids were up early/sick/.... People saying she is sad or she will regret this or be a bitter lonely woman in 20 years are sad themselves. I have a niece, I love her and I love spending time with her but I also love being able to bring her back to her parents after. That's enough for me and I don't want kids of my own. Everytime I tell someone I don't want kids, I get replies like: "OMG why wouldn't you want kids?", "You don't know what you're missing", "you'll change your mind!" How about people just accept other people's choices? Not everyone has the same lifegoals/dreams/wishes...
I can relate. But well, to a certain point, you stop caring about what others think. Just be yourself and be happy with your choice :)
I'm a non mom and proud. I am constantly ostracized by my sister in law because I chose not to have children. Personally I have learned to accept it as jealousy.
Same way I feel about my niece. I'm baffled by people acting shocked or saddened by my not having kids. Why is this saddening for them? Once had a total stranger ask me where my kids were. When I said I'd not have any he asked me why not? Wtf?
I don't even like other peoples kids. Why the hell should I have them.
I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting kids. I come from a large family and am the big sister out of everyone else. Though I do want children, I enjoy my free time and also enjoy being able to gush over my nieces and nephews. I get to be a part of the family support system. I'm happy to babysit so mom and dad can get time to other things, like sleep :)
There is always a reaction to an action. Accept other opinions too and get over it ;)
that's her point exactly - learn to accept other's opinions without hating. criticism can be good, when it's constructive, and hers is.
What I find interesting is that gay marriage and homosexuality/lesbianism are now widely accepted (at least in the Western civilized world) but a woman not wanting to have children, that's still a cause for major interwebs uproar. I'm having the best time not having kids, I don't have to sacrifice myself for some selfish sucker, I don't add to overpopulation, and I have plenty of spare money. As for being alone in my old age? Tell that to all of my friends who have put their parents into an old folks' home.
Seriously. Ever since I was little, I knew I never wanted kids. It's my life and my decision, and the idiots who claim that without kids your life has no meaning can go to hell.
Same here. When I found out about giving birth I was sure I never want them:D I have always thought that if ever then I'd rather adopt a poor kid that needs my help not add a new sad person to the world that is overpopulated:S
Totally agree - esp. with 'overpopulation' word (that is the ultimate selling point, here). The entire world should bring in a one-child policy, seriously. Everyone blames over-development/consumerism, on energy consumption, & pollution/climate change, etc. But, if there are non-stop births going on, how else can industry meet the needs of an ever-increasing supply of homo sapiens? This might sound perverse (in response to Shana, above) - I too have nephews, & niece - however, I do not care to see them too much... they are no different to other peers their age, just 'cos they're blood-related to me! Have had heaps of trauma in my life - especially from other 'normal' people, living in the nuclear family-type scenario (some of the best people, have been marginal people living rough - WITHOUT families. Point is, all other members of our extended family (cousins, etc), stopped @ 2 kids, when they got 'pigeon pairs' - non-twins - my brother, & his wife when for 3rd. Yuck!
Yeah the one child policy worked great in China, especially all the forced abortions and babies having their heads smashed in against walls and stuff. ^^
You Are a disgusting human being.
Cheers to that!!
amen! great minds think alike..esp that last sentence!
Why is that interesting? Or a surprise?
"I was nominated by myself to post five pictures" - but I see only four...
Piccard had that problem with the number of lights he saw.
