Last Thursday, May 16, Calvin Klein brand launched a new campaign starring model Bella Hadid and digital influencer Lil Maquela. In the video, looking at the diversity, the model and the “virtual doll” carry a lesbian kiss, criticized by the public.

In social media, some people in the LGBTQ community have accused the brand of being “queerbaiting,” that is, a marketing strategy in which advertising suggests a homosexual relationship to attract this audience without dispersing heterosexual clients. The justification used by some of these people, to support the argument, was the fetishism behind the relationship between two women.

Another criticism received by the label was the fact that they used a heterosexual celebrity for the campaign – which is a sign of the various LGBTQ models that could have been invited.

In advertising for the Calvin Klein brand, Bella Hadid and Lil Michele’s kiss were shown: only one of them does not exist, and the video itself has caused a scandal. The girls look beautiful together, but the company already had to apologize for their idea. After all, several LGBTQ people did not like it.

Lil Maquela is a little less known, she has “only” half a million subscribers. Internet users first noticed her in 2016 and wondered for a long time whether she was a real girl or something like a Sims character. It is already known that Lil Maquela is a CGI model, that is, a digital creation. However, that did not stop her from becoming the face of UGG’s advertising campaign.
