26 Times Animals Became The Main Characters In Jeffrey De Keyser’s Street Photography

Belgian street photographer Jeffrey De Keyser has a knack for spotting the unusual in otherwise ordinary surroundings. His photographs often find humor, surrealism, and absurdity in everyday scenes, turning fleeting encounters into images that make you pause and look twice.

Based in Ghent, De Keyser discovered street photography in 2014, initially pursuing it as a leisure activity before it became an important form of self-expression and a way of exploring how we perceive the world. He doesn't typically head out with a particular theme in mind. Instead, he reacts to whatever catches his eye, later finding connections between individual photographs during the editing process. Bold colors, reflections, unusual juxtapositions, and moments that seem to bend reality all feature prominently in his work.

For this collection, however, we're focusing on a recurring cast of characters that can make even the most carefully composed street scene more unexpected: animals. From cats and dogs to sheep, geese, and camels, they appear alongside people, architecture, reflections, and city streets, sometimes becoming the visual punchline without seeming to do anything at all.
