Historic Glass-Plate Photos From Romania Restored And Turned Into Colorful Art (Part 2)

Continuing with her Dancing with Costică series, Australian artist Jane Long uses photographs from Romanian photographer Costică Acsinte restores, recolors and transforms them into something unexpected!

Some people love them and some people hate them but there’s little doubt they all involve lots of painstaking retouching in Photoshop. The original images are part of a collection being restored and digitized by Cezar Popescu for the Ialomita County Museum.

The series will be exhibited as part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale from August 22nd.

I've commented on poor restorations beforehand, they are relatively easy with good PS skills. However...these are a different level. Love them. Conceptual, Surreal and very well executed. Kudos.

Although a couple were vaguely disturbing, I'm happy that these old portraits have not been lost to time.

Brilliant I love 'em all!!! But wow those kids tho, some of 'em gave me the creeps. Was it a taboo to smile for a photo back then?

A lot of people did smile, the problem was that it took nearly 60 seconds to get an exposure. There's actually a really good article floating around with behind the scene shots of family photos where they have messed up by laughing etc. The problem was after the 20th time of trying to take the photo, people just got fed up of trying to hold the same face and posture...hence the moody looks in older photos. :-)

Very AMAZING photo manipulations, cool style! I wanted to retouch in this genre, but image manipulations are not my strong points. I send my works to online photo retouching services like FixThePhoto if I need

the only bad thing is that the glass plates are deteriorating in time, because of the fact that our museum doesnt have a proper storage system. Its good to see that people are fascinated by these photos that are representative for our town, slobozia.
