Fear, exhaustion, anxiety and outrage are words that come to mind as I think of my ongoing emotions over the last several months. As I started creating for this body of work, I had a deep sense that I needed to create something beautiful to counteract all of the negativity I am feeling. It is always my intention to bring awareness to issues surrounding our environment and with this body of work, I wanted to show my deep appreciation for the things that are, indeed beautiful in this world. I needed a break, an escape from the disturbing realities that are currently facing our country and the world. Please join me in enjoying this brief moment of reprieve.
In an effort to support the environment, most of the materials used in this body of work are from nature or re-purposed thrift store finds. Specimens in this body of work are sourced from insect farms, which preserve insect populations and help stimulate the economy in developing countries. Bones are sourced from forest finds, roadkill and antique shops.
