People Are Recreating Famous Paintings In This Spanish Facebook Group, And Here Are 30 Of The Best Ones
As museums and galleries have closed due to the spread of coronavirus, people still need to find a way to get that artsy fix. And Spain, the second worst-hit country in the world, is no exception.
The land of Don Quixote is buzzing with quarantined people who are taking the arts and crafts game to the next level. The Facebook group “Quearteencasa” invites everyone to join the real-life painting recreation challenge. The group description says that all you need to do is to pick a favorite painting and recreate it with household items. And some of the entries look so real you'd better look twice at La Gioconda’s cheeky smile. Yep, it's a neighbor from the top floor, nailing the Renaissance look like she was born in Cinquecento. I'm adding this to my lockdown entertainment menu.
After you’re done, check out some more hilarious painting recreations by quarantined people here and here.

With nipples gloriously on display... but then, man nipples aren't obscene or lustful rage inducing, right, BP?
Load More Replies...Bosch was one of those people who were centuries ahead of their time, doing surrealism way before anyone else.
Quearteencasa group’s description assures would-be members that “you don’t have to be a great art expert to participate.” You can choose the format to recreate—a painting, a poster, or a stamp. The group encourages participants to “be creative, funny, ironic, humorous” and, most importantly, “surprise them.”
It’s not the first time that Spain, the second worst coronavirus-hit country, has demonstrated its taste for art during the lockdown. Three Barcelona-based creators, Emma Calvo, Irene Llorca, and José Guerrero, have launched the “Covid Art Museum” on Instagram, which commissions artists to reflect their lives in quarantine. The pandemic will end eventually, but art will remain forever.
The rhythm of the lines and the colour scheme bring this piece with its' fantastic humour together. I love it.
Both men. Jean-Paul Marat was a French revolutionaire who was assainated while bathing.
The death of Marat by David. Mae with my son Jules-Iann and used for his art project during the confinement. He is only 14 and really proud. 😍
Charlotte Corday. He spent a lot of time in the bath because he had a skin condition.
Load More Replies...I saw this when it was in temporary exhibition at the D’ Orsey, called Crime and Punishment. Wonderful adaptation!
Bored Panda contacted Elmira Kamalova, the administrator of the Quearteencasa Facebook group, to find out more about the community.
She said that similar groups exist all over the world and the idea itself isn’t original. But Quearteencasa is aimed at people from Spanish-speaking countries who could use the platform to engage in local art, things, and popular stuff. “Our members come from Spain, Mexico and Argentina. And some people, they come from Italy!”
“People can talk about things in their own language, support each other, and get united online,” Elmira explained. Her end goal is to turn this challenge into an international project and make it a legit artistic game for everyone to enjoy! “I would like it to become its own kind of Artistic Game, like the Olympic Games or Eurovision, where each country has its own group of people competing with each other,” said Elmira.
Using the tent is a brilliant commentary on the size of those skirts!
Menina, menina! How did you do this ? It is fabulous, what imagination Have you been to Prague to the Illusion art gallery? You should be exhibiting there too.
A pup tent and a Barbie? No, that must be a wig. Interesting.
Love it! She almost makes the decadent look work. And that cat is a stroke of genius
Just imagine a young kid would see a female nipple! It may turn them into a serial killer later!
Load More Replies...My pushing 90 year old, scotch and whiskey drinking grandma walks about top free more than I do. Grandma on the other side gets her vitamin D sunbathing topless too. Get over nipple hating and let people’s tittles go free if they wish.
If you had relaxed back I’ll bet you’d have gotten a better score. Nicely done!
I googled it. It’s called The Encounter by Remedios Varo Uranga who was a Spanish surrealist artist;.
Load More Replies...Quite extraordinary. The palette is perfect, not an easy one to reproduce
I love it The lady in back is wearing a COVID mask! :-)
I think this is beautiful as is. Don't focus so much on the skin color of the model.
Since the criteria for this challenged art is to recreate your favorite painting and it has to be with what ever is in your home, this is a good rendition.
What's with the change of colour ? not as great as others.
Love Dalí and Gala. Funny that with the curtains he couldn¨t help himself
Those were great. A lot of effort and ingenuity went into the recreations.
