There's nothing inherently wrong with working like this (as long as there's certain work laws applied as well as sick leaves, vacations and such added), but if you work full time 50+ years, you should be able to live comfortably with your paycheck, own your house/apartment and have a full retirement plan. Now that is mostly utopia for normal people.

The USA could house it's homeless, end poverty for its citizens, give universal healthcare to everyone, raise its minimum wage to an actual living wage, provide further education for all who wanted it AND it would save money in the long run. But those in power will not do so. Rather they choose to give hand relief to the billionaires. All whilst telling the rest of the world the USA is a beacon of freedom and opportunity.
