Western Brands That Are Still Operating In Russia Received A Warning On Twitter From “Anonymous” Urging Them To Pull Out Within 48 Hours
It’s been nearly 4 weeks since Russia’s armed forces invaded Ukraine, and, unfortunately, the end doesn’t seem to be on the horizon.
During this time, nearly the entire world has united to help Ukraine and its people in whichever way they could. Besides the immense amounts of humanitarian aid and military arms support for Ukraine, and the barrage of relentless sanctions against Russia, Europeans have been very active in taking in refugees and organizing fundraisers around the clock. But this is only scratching the surface.
On top of it all, the hacker group Anonymous have also been taking active steps against Russia. At first, it started taking down news media and Defense Ministry websites. Then it moved to taking down entire television stations and even hacking into 400 surveillance cameras.
This time around, they are issuing a warning to all western brands that continue to fuel the Russian war machine with their business in the country.

Anonymous is a decentralized international collective of hacktivists and an activist movement that are known for cyber attacks against governments, institutions, agencies, and corporations.
Yesterday, March 21st, 2022, Anonymous posted on Twitter that it is calling on all companies that continue to carry out business in Russia, this way putting tax money into the Kremlin’s pockets, to stop their operations and pull out. Otherwise, they will become targets of cyber attacks as companies that are supporting Russia in its aggression towards Ukraine and its people. They gave 48 hours to make the decision.
They provided a sizable list of specific brands that are still operating in Russia, including Nestle, Subway, Burger King, Patreon, Papa Johns, General Mills, Mondelez, Dunkin’ Donuts, and many more. In a follow-up tweet, they said that they expect other Western companies (not mentioned in the tweet) to follow suit.
In their tweet on Monday, Anonymous warned many Western brands that they will target any Western brand that doesn’t pull out of Russia within 48 hours

They also provided a list of companies that are in their radar, and that they expect others to act like Halliburton and Schlumberger did

Up until now, Anonymous has targeted the Russian Government and entities closely associated with it. In particular, the news website RT.com and Russia Today TV channel, the website of the Defense Ministry of Russia, and Belarusian weapons manufacturer Tetraedr were all hacked, with the last one having 200GB of e-mails leaked.
Besides that, Anonymous also hacked and are broadcasting 400 Russian surveillance cameras—a project they call Russian Camera Dump.
While this is going on, others are taking measures to encourage companies to leave Russian markets. Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal tweeted that he talked to Nestle CEO Mark Schneider, but was sad to report that the businessman showed no understanding and hopes that Nestle will change its mind.

Clothing designer brand NAZVA also reposted Nestle chocolate bar designs featuring the death and destruction Russia’s armed forces have brought upon Ukraine with the following caption:
“War is a big mistake of all mankind and there are those who start it. There are those who want to stop the war and fight the aggressor and there are those who on the contrary support the aggressor and thereby earn on the blood of murdered children of Ukraine! This is the company NESTLE which does not stop selling products in the territory of the Russian Federation!”
The clothing designer brand NAZVA reposted some photoshopped Nestle chocolate bar designs that depict their true stance on the war

People on Twitter responded by pointing out some companies that weren’t included in the visual the hackers provided—companies like Renault and Philip Morris. Others were thanking the hacktivist group for taking an active stand and bringing the battle to the oppressors, hindering Russia’s operations in any way they can.

I'd like to point out that there is huge difference between pulling out if you are a fast food chain or a luxury car brand than if you are a significant food manufacturer. Russian people still deserve to eat. Babies still deserve formula. Yes, ask then to stop selling Yves st Laurent, but nestle cannot and should not completely boycott Russia.

And Abbott is a diagnostic company, while Abbvie makes drugs. Presumably there are Russian children in hospitals in Russia who still need to be diagnosed with and treated for diseases? I don’t see Abbott and Abbvie’s competitors on that list, though so I dunno.

Nestle is absolutely worth boycotting for all kinds of reasons, this just being the latest. That said, the pic showing the companies they own is very old, at least 5 years. I know of at least two companies - Kit Kat (in the US) and Body Shop - that have been sold and now have new ownership, and that goes back to 2017/2018. There may well be others. Has anyone considered the humanitarian obligation to the humans that live there that have nothing to do with the political climate? Babies still need formula and diapers, some will still basics medications. Are we willing to donate these items indefinitely? Some major brands (Huggies, Kimberly Clark for example) are not pulling out 100% of the business. Because they provided for a greater humanitarian need.

Sanctions don't work in Russia. Forcing manufactures to close is not going to end the war. And even if the American corporate headquarters tell these companies to shut down, they're not gonna do it. These workers need jobs. And it doesn't matter if you attack them on the computer. You can still make hamburgers without a computer. You can still operate machinery without the Internet. All that it does, all that sanctioning Russia does, just reduce the amount of trust that the Russian people have for the west, thus fueling more war.

Actually, they do work. Russia can't keep their cars running and their planes flying, or even keep pumping oil and gas and running industrial computers without Western parts. And for the likes of food industry, sanctions deplete Russia out of dollars. Without foreign currency and the ruble's value sinking like a rock, financing a war gets harder and harder.

I do truly feel sympathy with my whole heart for the suffering that the ordinary Russian citizens will have to endure because of the actions of Putin and his band of war criminals. There are two choices for suffering, Russian or Ukranian. It should be the aggressors . Wasn't life better before the invasion ffs ? Stop following a madman.

The sanctions will, of course, be incredibly difficult for the Russian people, and those that don't support Putin will be caught in a terribly unfair situation because of their leader. However, this is an incredibly delicate, difficult situation...world leaders must walk a very thin line between trying to end the war against Ukraine and not pushing Putin into a situation where he feels the use of nuclear weapons is justified.

So an unregulated vigilante hacker group decided to threaten Russia . . . .good luck with that. They can offer support, side with Ukraine and help provide information but demanding companies exit "or else" is a step too far. Franchises can still operate, babks still need to operate for ordinary Russians who are just trying to get by and lets not forget that Anonymous is threatening the livelihoods of innocent bystanders not directly involved because as we are ALL aware, the Russian government isnt exactly democratic or caring. I'm all for Anonymous being supportive but having some self appointed virtual batman declare that they are suddenly getting involved . . . . .nope, can't see this ending well and it might make things worse.

I’m sorry but uh, I don’t think this will actually help much. This will just kill Russian families who need supplies, but it does help stop Putin. It’s a double edged sword. It’s been shown that most Russians do not want this war, pulling out of Russia literally destroyed their savings.

I just Wikipedia’s Nestle. The conglomerate umbrella of so many products (and not just food. Big pharma as well. Novartis, is the example, but that will prove to be much more difficult because of that product list. But my animals all agree. We can do better, rather feed them blood food. (Like purchasing diamonds - which started in the early 90s. It changed so much for those South African mines. ). It can be done! And GET EM’ ANONYMOUS!

Pretty naive to think the world could stop this war this way. Russia main source of income are natural resources and products like wheat and fertilizer. Many countries can't afford to not buy from them or risk starvation of their people and ruining their economy. The 1st world can afford higher prices, the 2nd and 3rd can't, and without russia's goods they will suffer a lot more

That's an over simplification. We are not talking purely about commodities. And even when it does, India was criticised recently for buying Russian oil. Their reply: "Buying thousands of barrels of CUT PRICE oil, of course we will" So while the worldwide price for oil is high, the DEMAND for Russian oil is lower. So the price has fallen so they got less money even though they are still able to sell it. Sanctions work. Too slowly though.

I don’t know who made that chart but Nestle does not own L’Oréal, and L’Oréal owns many many more brands but The Body Shop is not one of them. Neither is Stella McCartney. Ombrelle IS Garnier so not sure why it’s on there as a deprecate entity? And, L’Oréal ceased operations in Russia from right after invasion. Propaganda like that just makes the source, and reposter, look unreliable.

Pretty naive to think the world could stop this war this way. Russia main source of income are natural resources and products like wheat and fertilizer. Many countries can't afford to not buy from them or risk starvation of their people and ruining their economy. The 1st world can afford higher prices, the 2nd and 3rd can't, and without russia's goods they will suffer a lot more

That's an over simplification. We are not talking purely about commodities. And even when it does, India was criticised recently for buying Russian oil. Their reply: "Buying thousands of barrels of CUT PRICE oil, of course we will" So while the worldwide price for oil is high, the DEMAND for Russian oil is lower. So the price has fallen so they got less money even though they are still able to sell it. Sanctions work. Too slowly though.

Cuba has been under sanctions for 75 years and its increased Cuban poverty, made Americans feel nice for messing with Commies and done jack all for any "war". Same is true of Venezuela, who the US is now negotiating with as an alternative oil source.

I do not support military action. But what hypocrites are all those who call for the companies to leave Russia. People in Russia are the same as everywhere else. You don't like Putin, fight him, not ordinary people who live in Russia.

Any business doing business with a business trying to overrun a country that simply wants it's own freedom and did nothing to deserve what is happening, is no better than the tyrannical government murdering innocent people. I don’t know who made that chart but Nestle does not own L’Oréal, and L’Oréal owns many many more brands but The Body Shop is not one of them. Neither is Stella McCartney. Ombrelle IS Garnier so not sure why it’s on there as a deprecate entity? And, L’Oréal ceased operations in Russia from right after invasion. Propaganda like that just makes the source, and reposter, look unreliable.
