I’m a cat person damn it! But dogs seem to like me, and two of my biggest fans look like him. I am so glad the three of them are good to each other. The thought of my #1 fan being a stray without friends is very hard to bear. I’m going to visit even if he knocks me over and pushes up against me. People, how do I calm him down?

AHS' Pet Behavior and Pet Training Manager Dagnino said that pets like dogs and cats are social animals and usually prefer the company of other animals and people. "It is safe to assume that animals who do have social relationships with other species likely had exposure to them during an early stage in their development, or had interactions over a long period of time that were positive for them," she said.
"At the Arizona Humane Society, we have opportunities to pair animals of the same species (dogs with dogs, cats with cats) to provide some more social interaction, and sometimes it can provide a shy animal some comfort," Dagnino explained.
What's more, the AHS team can provide adopters with some tips for pet adopters to help introduce new rescue animals to their new forever homes in a way that's safe and comfortable for all the pets involved. You can find some helpful tips and tricks right here.

Apparently this is a very common practice with Cheetahs. Cheetahs are extremely anxious animals and pairing them with dogs helps quell that anxiety. Even Cheetahs need therapy friends!

A lot of zoos have programs where cheetahs and dogs are friends. Kris and Remus from the Cincinnati zoo are a good example of this. it's kind of like an outreach program, but not really.

We have these owls in the desert area next to my house. Literally we walk 10 yards and there we are. The owls are called "burrowing owls" they overtake a prairie dog home that's been left. It's so cute to watch them come out at dusk to eat. All legs.

Dagnino confirmed to Bored Panda that cats and dogs can get along together and even show affection toward each other. "But their ability or inclination to do this is affected by both animals’ experiences in early development and maintained by positive or negative experiences during their lifetime, even genetics," she warned.
Mutually beneficial friendships between different species can occur naturally (like badgers hunting together with foxes or coyotes), but some close bonds blossomed because of us—human beings.
Humans domesticating animals has created the foundation for some interspecies cooperation and friendships that otherwise would most likely never have come about. So you can see friendships blossoming between animals that live with or near humans. Ever been to a farm or a zoo? You’ll know what we mean, then.

That’s not to say that cats and dogs will suddenly become best amigos, but it does mean they’re more likely to get along (or at least tolerate one another) because they’re constantly around each other.
Animals of different species communicate with each other both verbally and non-verbally. Just like we can try and interpret what a dog is telling us, a dog can try understanding what its duck/cat/cheetah buddy is trying to say. Meanwhile, some species of monkeys have been known to communicate with one another by sounding alarm calls whenever danger is near. However, bonds aren’t always purely utilitarian.
The basis for friendship can be pretty much anything, but one of the most common ways it starts is through having fun. When animals play together, they get closer, and can become friends, eventually. It’s not that different for human beings!

Um... a paternity test might be in order. Naaahhh - I love mystery must. Sometimes I see nearly every dog in my deer nose Chi mix rescue.. I think he’s Chi-Corgi and whatever else. : ). I can bend his ears so that he looks like a Beagle, mini pit tie, Jack Russel (but with a fawn coat), Dachshund. Those don’t count. He’s also part chicken. His back legs are so tiny! They look like Chicken wings (not the tip, the single bone one. His feet and back legs are half the size of his front arms and paws. Sorry to go on about my dog. I’ve been in my house for 7 months. Pretty stir crazy. I love this thread. Dogs are my favorite people. ❣️

Naming: Shaboogamoo and Toatser. (I had a lamb named Shaboogamoo. She got out - my love, St. Bernard - saw her as a threat. My Saint had never acted like that. At most, she’d halfheartedly chase one of the cats. Shaboogamoo was some sort of special type. I’ve learned so much in the four decades since I was 9 or so. I find it very hard to look back on things like that. Our house was in the woods - could only see our one neighbor in the winter. Gee, I still feel sad about that little puffball. I barely had her for a day.

I also once saw footage of a wildlife cam, showing a wolf exitedly trying (and finalling suceeding) to convince his badger friend to follow him across a bridge. I guess they sometimes make hunting partnerships with other species and become friends over that?

More than likely it was a coyote. There are more documented cases of coyotes forming bonds with other wild animals. There's a reason the cartoon named him "Wile E Coyote", they are incredibly intelligent. A badger can dig into small ground dens to get at prey, while the coyote can chase the prey down.

A lady down the road from me once had a King Charles Spaniel called Gismo. Gismo used to go wandering around the countryside where we live all the time. One day he came back followed by a little white kitten. Rene, Gismo's owner, kept the kitten but it was truly Gismo's pet. Gismo really looked after this kitten and loved her so much. He used to play with her and let clamber all over him. At this stage Gismo was an old dog but he didn't mind. If the kitten wandered off he would go looking for her and bring her home. Sadly Gismo died a few years after this. But Rene still has the white cat.

They are gentle and innocent, now imagine their pain when right after giving birth their calves are stolen from them, even though their cries of anguish are unmistakable; then those calves are stuffed into small cages, so small that they cannot turn around and stretch their legs; then they are brutally murdered..... all that so "people" can steel their milk. Once again: there is no creature in nature who drinks mother's milk after weaning, let alone the milk of another species, only humans are capable of such a despicable, cruel perversion. Your painful chronic pains and diseases are result of this cruelty. Please switch to plant-based milk and dairy. Thank you for your compassion.

From this post I learned that people think that a) cats and dogs are enemies and b) Golden Retriever and Labrador are same breed. Neither is true. Cats and dogs living in a same house are most often good buddies. Each relationship is different and sometimes they cuddle eachoter to death and others are like siblings annoying each other every wake moment but anyway they are part of the pact - or family if you wish - and in the end love eachother. Also, Labradors and Goldies are two different breeds, both adorable, but this lovely dog is a Golden Retriever.

Thanks. And, so you are correct. It is a Golden Retriever. At 3am in the morning, my eyesight isn't so hot. LOL I also know the difference between these and a duck tolling retriever. I had a neighbour who had one of these. She kept insisting that it was a golden retriever, and I said that it was a duck toller. "No. It's a golden retriever," she told anyone who would listen. I gave up. Her duck toller was also ridiculously overweight, with the body shape of a barrel. Not wanting to sound mean, I told the lady that her dog needed to shed a few pounds. She just shrugged it off with a "Yeah.' I gave up with that too. I should have kept up with it.

Horses sometimes have secret personalities - not necessarily visible unless you get to know them. I miss being near a horse/horses. One of the best memories in my life was on horse who just wanted to go. I had no reins, I was 10. 46 years ago. I usually rode the aging Palomino who would do anything for me, or anyone. My friend Angel rode the barrel racer, but she was skilled. I’m not sure how I got on her horse. It was 8n the NE desert of the reservation in WA. I got up (no reins) I was being taught bareback, and mane. He threw me off, knowing I was an idiot. I got back on. Thinking back it was pretty dangerous... well I immediately learned why this huge muscled jet engine was special. I held on for dear life, the near sunset sparkling in my wind tears... I’d do almost anything to do that again.

They do seem to be comfortable around each other, but please don't get a rabbit if you have another pet (besides a rabbit) because cats and dogs have hunting instincts and the rbbit would be extremly stressed because they are prey animals. Also the picture is ADORABLE.

It's the same with Pit Bulls. But that shows more of the stupidity in humans than it does dogs. Pit Bulls are easily some of the sweetest and kindest dogs out there.

In my experience, adding a younger dog can really help an older dog thrive and provide comfort as the older dog declines. Of course, not every older dog will tolerate a pup.

German Shepherds usually love baby animals. Mine LOVED kittens. Went to let him in one afternoon to find a stray kitten curled up asleep on his back. He refused to stand up like he knew it would wake the kitten. Also, the poor kitty's face was damp from being licked too much 😂

Animal friendships make me incredibly happy. They don't see differences. They sense a kindred spirit. It's probably no wonder that I think animals are more enlightened than the human species. These photos are very touching. Thank you.

This makes me sad about humans. Why are you discriminating against something as arbitrary as skin color? You’re both humans. If a dog and a cheetah, a coyote and a bear, and a cat and a couple of roos can be friends, why can’t a white person and black person be friends too?

These remind me of my late dog. We lived in Virginia and he was 15, blind, and deaf. We let him out back (fenced) and came back later. There were 4-5 deer in our yard and he was just laying 5 feet from them. He was oblivious to their existence, but its still a sweet memory :)

2 things this taught us is; 1: Animals don't discriminate and will love who they love! And 2: apparently foxes and cats are more loving animals than we thought!!

This was very heart warming especially because I got in a really big argument this just makes everything better. I also have a story to tell I had went to the orchard and I saw a blind turkey in a cage that said "Back away this animal may bite" I thought it was harmless and didn't deserve to be alone as well and be told it was dangerous
