Tulou is located 120 km south-west of Fujian province. The county hosts many Hakka roundhouses and castles. Tulou houses feature tall fortified mud walls capped by tiled roofs with wide over-hanging eaves. Constructed by Hakka clans between the 15th and 20th centuries Tulou are exceptional in terms of size, building traditions and function.
