I’m a self-taught professional fibre artist with a Masters Degree in animal behaviour and a PhD in Education for Sustainability. My passion is creating highly realistic needle felted cats and dogs based on photographs for people to remember their beloved animals by. I have works in homes all over the world, including the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, the UK and Hong Kong.

The craft of needle felting involves jabbing wool roving over and over with special barbed felting needles until the wool becomes solid. The wool is felted around a wire frame which gives it strength and allows the legs of the animals to be self supporting. Once the shape is firm, creating the animals likeness can begin. I work on my miniatures for many many hours, often over 17 hours per work, to create felted sculptures that are more than just a miniature replica of the animal, they each have their own special ‘spark’ and personality. Most are less than 16cm high and some are as small as 12cm high.

Observing the behaviour of animals is one of my many interests which informs my sculptures and sets them apart.
