Pareidolia is not just a simple mind trick making you see funny faces on things when there actually are none. It's no sign of psychosis coming your way either, but rather a quite complex, pre-historical self-defense mechanism. Yes, it's true, seeing unlikely faces helped our ancestors survive; if you presumed that the rustling bush has a saber-toothed tigers' face hidden behind the leaves, chances are you'd run and save yourself if there actually was a beast lurking in the greenery.

Gerald had a tendency to get strung out leading up to the holiday season each year. However, this year his particular branch of the Gingerbread clan's annual Christmas Eve party was to be 'Karaoke Karols'. Alas, tone-deaf Gerald couldn't sing, not even a lick of icing. He worked himself into a state of no return over allowing himself to be roped into taking part in this waking nightmare before Christmas. After a few shots of spiked eggnog, he began to ascend the Christmas tree. He reached the top, snipped off a length of shiny garland to fashion a make-shift noose, and broke off a hand in the process, which landed on Cousin Giselle's head. Looking up, she shrieked and swooned to the floor. I can't say the words but the photograph tells the tale. Poor Gisele nearly went to pieces because in fact, she and Gerald had been secret kissing cousins since being thrown together in the mixing bowl. She became stale, often pulling Gerard's hand out of her handbag to scare little gingersnaps.

Near my home, some Chinese people were burning paper money for a religious activity and the smoke at some point resembled the face of a deceased firefighter. Then a moment later, a beautiful grasshopper appeared on the grass nearby-some say it was the firefighter's reincarnated soul come to visit us!
