I started collecting cassette photos on tapedeck.org over 10 years ago, because I didn’t just want to throw my remaining cassettes away – I wanted a keepsake to remember the good old times. So over the years I collected close to a thousand different cassettes – a lot of the them beautiful and weird, some of them iconic and representative of the decade they’re from.

Starting there, I studied the underlying design principles of all those tapes and designed five iconic graphical designs based on several decades’ signature cassette styles. After printing them on a shirt, the wearer gets to be the tape — a living declaration of love for music you could touch, for analog media, for auto reverse decks, for rewinding with a pencil.

Even without naming any brands you’ll probably recognize some of the tapes of your youth — and maybe you’ll even remember what you recorded on them… and for whom?
