Woman Posts Pic Of 6-Week-Old Embryo To Shame Pro-Choicers, One Of Them Responds With Scientific Facts On What Makes Us Human
After the state of Alabama passed a bill recently effectively banning abortion, this raw and ongoing debate has once again come into sharp focus in American politics. If the bill becomes law it will be the most restrictive abortion law in the U.S, and make criminals of any doctor who performs the procedure, even in cases of incest and rape.

Conservative commentator Liz Wheeler, pictured above, is a strong proponent of the law and has made it a personal mission to “expose liberal hypocrisy” when it comes to abortion. She recently tweeted the image of a six-week-old embryo alongside the words “This is “two weeks late on your period.” Two weeks late has arms & legs forming, fingers & toes, & a heartbeat!”
Wheeler’s tweet was in response to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who referred to another controversial case, Georgia’s “heartbeat bill,” when saying that “6 weeks pregnant” could equal just “2 weeks late on your period.”

Wheeler clearly wanted to demonstrate the advanced development of the embryo, highlighting its already familiar human features to invoke a sense of ‘murder’ by terminating an embryo at this stage. Twitter user Emily M wasn’t having it, however, and replied with a reasoning more in line with accepted scientific findings.

Other people quickly joined in, giving their own opinions on this most controversial and divisive topic, one that has settled firmly along partisan lines. Sadly, it seems that much of the rational discussion has disappeared from this debate, with Republicans overwhelmingly anti-abortion and Democrats strongly pro-choice. The result is both sides shouting at each other, with little calm, evidence-based logic emerging. Because of the heavy involvement of religious belief, as well as the definition of ‘life’ and when it begins being so subjective, it is sure to remain this way for some time to come.

BP, I applaud you for bringing up these subjects that show how women's rights are being chipped away - right under our noses! - in even the what people were thinking to be well established democracies. It is scary to see and realise how fragile these rights are and how easily things can turn backwards, into the Middle Ages.

Because topics, political or otherwise, should only be discussed where YOU think they should, not in everyday life at anytime it is necessary. International Human Rights and articles within the Geneva Convention speak to body autonomy/integrity. No one person, army, state or government can torture, kill or experiment on any human being. Women lose body autonomy/integrity with these laws. It's unacceptable.

At six weeks, there is no heart, no 'heart beat'...there IS 'fetal pole cardiac activity'...described as 'electrical activity in the fetal pole that runs along the yolk sac. ...' Science is your friend.

Why is it more important for an embryo that has not even developed a brain let alone brain function live, then a fully developed person who has a heartbeat but without brain function? Almost no one argues for them not to be removed from a life support machine due to cost and poor quality of life for those involved. Women and young girls are not simply life support equipment. They are the only ones to take the full and unavoidable brunt of a physical, mental and life altering situation. Birth control fails and is not available to everyone with functioning overies. A female does nor have to be a consenting, mentally and physically a mature capable adult to be fertilized. Through the millennia, how many women, girls, infants and children suffered a tormented if not drastically shortened life due to an unwilling and unwanted pregnancy.? Why do they count less then an embryo that is less self aware then a shrimp?

They actually count from when your last period started. Since most women ovulate 2 weeks AFTER the start of their period, the "6 week" law is really a 4 week law and is beyond fking stupid.

Is there a farm somewhere in the US that breeds all the social conservatives? They seem to come in a very limited number of models. Angular over-groomed blond with perma-surprised eyes is one of their most popular models, as is potato-shaped man with laminated hair in a suit.

Not to be rude @RJ but you sound like you're projecting. If I knew my neighbors were abusing their child, I might not take care of the child myself but I would absolutely get CPS involved, and I'm not even sure how this issue relates to the topic at hand. Regardless of the reason behind an abortion, it's none of your business unless it's your abortion, and no one should be shamed for it, whatever the reason.
