I'm a French photographer, and my name is Dimitri "Jahz Design". It was in 2013 when I developed my interest in the photography of heritage in disuse.
I travel the globe looking for places in decline. Today, I want to share with you the most beautiful abandoned places in Greece.

Ghost Ship
How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is clearly Ocean.” – Arthur C. Clarke
No, this is in Gytheio, Greece. It's the shipwreck Dimitrios https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimitrios_(shipwreck)

I am captivated by the unique aesthetics of these forgotten locations, which can evoke mysterious, nostalgic, or melancholic atmospheres. My goal is to capture the history and passage of time in these abandoned places, as they stand as witnesses of the past.
Mansion
This is in Thessaloniki, the 2nd largest city in Greece and there are several such mansions on the same street. 150 years ago these used to be on the seaside, today the seaside is 600 m away....some of these mansions have been restored, others are alas going in ruins...
Most of them belong or used to belong to the Jewish community, their owners never returned from Auschwitz. It is a very sad story.
Load More Replies...I love how its in the middle of a city and still overgrown antique and beautiful and no one has bought and torn it down to build some apartment
It probably belongs to one of the 50000 Jews that never returned from Auschwitz. The Jewish community of Thessaloniki was destroyed in 1943 and the ownership status of these buildings is complicated. It is a very sad story.

Proper preparation for a photographic expedition is essential to ensure safety, respect for the premises, and to obtain high-quality images. I thoroughly study the geographical area and check if the place is difficult to access. Additionally, I consider weather conditions, as some places may not be accessible in winter, for example. Certain locations may also be more interesting to explore during specific seasons. I also take into account the presence of wild animals, as it's an important factor to consider.
Train
Thermal
For Greece, I researched different types of abandoned places, such as old factories, locomotives, and planes. The country's rich history offers plenty of fascinating subjects to explore. I particularly enjoy discovering places where nature has taken over.
Aircraft House
That poor plane. First it gets forsaken as an aircraft and then it later gets abandoned as a dwelling.
It's not exactly abandoned, there's a "club" downstairs and you can even enter the plane - the back door (not pictured here) has a staircase leading in
Load More Replies...Fun fact: a certain "club" is downstairs of this airplane. Not really abandoned
Church
This church is in a village in central Greece that is slowly sliding downhill. There are many houses that are in the same condition too, i.e. sliding down the slope of the mountain....
So, the forest on the background is sliding down too...

Fairytale Castle
Wow, it's beautiful, fun, and looks fairly new! So sad it's abandoned!
About 30 years ago you could go in and roam around. I had visited this place as a kid and it felt like I was a princess in my castle!
Cruise Ship
Isn't that the Mediterranean Sky? If so, the owners went bankrupt. The ship took on water as it was being towed away. Fortunately, no-one got hurt or was killed.

747-200 SX-0AB was delivered to Olympic Airlines in December of 1973 and flew until 1996. It will eventually become a museum display.
Ghost Ship
Ships Graveyard
oh no, it's too amazing to make a graveyard of even one of them.
Swimming Pool
I believe it was for the Olympics in 2004 and then left abandoned, I need an Athens person to confirm? A lot of the facilities used for the OA 2004 are abandoned
No, actually this is the old Olympic Aquatic Center, the fist 50m swimming pool to be built in Athens. It was inaugurated in 1940 and remained in service, on and off, until 2012, when it shut down, another victim of the budget cuts imposed by the debt crisis bailout plan. It is situated in one of the most beautiful spots of the city, next to the ruins of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, a stone's throw from Plaka and the Acropolis hill. That the city authorities allowed such a beautiful historic spot to fall into disrepair is a scandal but hey, this is modern Greek culture for you

Lefkas Island, Greece. We quad-biked to the summit. Epic views. P1040859-6...ade101.jpg
Locomotive
A single-buffer coupler? Did not know they existed. Please explain?
I know I'm 11-months late on this, but it is a Balance-lever type coupling. This locomotive is a 750mm narrow-gauge unit formerly of the Diakopto–Kalavryta railway. This coupling type is often found where rolling stock has to deal with very tight curves.

On the highway just outside of Thessaloniki, heading southbound, passing the first tollbooth (Malgara) and 5 min further there's a small stone bridge in a field just off the highway, you can see it from your car, which legend claims Alexander the Great himself crossed. It's pretty much abandoned and a cool history fact
