Woman Asked For Help On Social Media After Finding Abandoned Dog With A Note “I’m Sorry, Please Take Care Of Her”

Those who have or have had pets can understand how much joy they can bring to people’s lives. However, not everyone appreciates animal company and sometimes our buddies get abandoned by their guardians. But we are here not to spread sadness. On the contrary! Today we want to share a story of a dog that, after being left alone, found a new home and a loving family.
On the 19th of December, Lais Chesine Monfrinato, a resident of Mairinque, Brazil, created a post on Facebook with a photo of a dog that was looking for a new home. The animal was left by her door with a note “I am sorry, please take care of her.” Lais was surprised to find an abandoned dog left only with a blanket, some food and the note. The woman didn’t have much space in her house since she had three adopted cats already, so she asked for help on social media. Luckily, one of her friends, Rosane Carraco, who was moved by the story, decided to adopt the dog. Lais knew how good Rosane is with animals, so she didn’t think twice and decided to give the pet to her friend.
The animal was received by the new family on the 26th of December as a Christmas present and was given a new name: Lua. In one of the interviews, Rosane revealed that she was concerned at first. The woman had a two-year-old dog, Mel, so she didn’t know if the two dogs would be able to live together. But her worries went away as soon as both animals met. They immediately became best friends.

“How a human being, if you can call a person that, can do this? You abandoned an animal and just walked away. They left this sweet girl at my home this morning,” Lais shared on the 19th of December on Facebook.

Luckily Lais’ friend, Rosane, agreed to take the dog and named her Lua

In one of her interviews, Lais revealed that Rosane, who is her boss, saw her post on Facebook and immediately called Lais on WhatsApp saying that she wanted to be with the dog. “I didn’t think twice, because I know the affection and love that she and her family give to animals.”
Lua stayed at Lais’ house for a week before she went to Rosane’s house. Everything was prepared for her arrival.
Rosane was worried at first that Lua would not get along with Mel, her other dog. To the woman’s relief, the two immediately became best friends

Rosane shared that Lua still doesn’t recognize the name when she calls her, but the dog is getting used to it. Mel and Lua get along very well. Lua accepts the fact that Mel is in charge here. “The two are happy.”
Lua’s future was unclear, but now she has a new home and a loving family

the owner did seem to care about the dog, but maybe was unable to care for it. It reminds me of that post about a boy who tied his dog to a bench in the park. He loved his dog and hated his father abusing the dog, so he wanted the dog saved...
That was my first thought too. That her previous owner was desperate. If there was a dog pound, most likely she would have been euthanized. ( even in my small town, the local pound euthanized over 2000 animals a year). This wasnt a good choice, but when do we ever get good choices to choose from? It's mostly trying to make the best of a bad lot. Obviously this dog had been loved. And is loved now.
I agree, Edith. This might not have been the best decision in a perfect world but she doesn't live in a perfect world. This might have been the best option out of a her choices. Unfortunately, we will never know. All we know is the pup is in a good place and has a new furry bestie ☺️
You’re so right. We don’t all live charmed lives and unfortunately, sometimes the bad choice is the ONLY choice.
Yes. The dog's coat is shiny and well cared for, they are normal weight and apparently had an extremely friendly disposition. He was loved. This breaks my heart.
This was my exact thought, too. An abusive spouse or parent will most definitely use animals as a way to hurt thier target. It could be a woman who did not have much time to be outside her home and picked the closest friendly home she knew of. That way when her husband gets home she can say the pup ran away and she gave the food away since they wouldn't need it anymore. I agree with Edith that this wasn't the most wonderful decision but might have been the best option she had.
I feel the same. We dont know the whole story, what the person was going through so I dont want to judge. The owner obviously couldnt keep the dog but tried to find her another home and save her. And the dog doesnt seem like abused or anything. I hope the owner is ok and someday can reunite. There are people who abandon their pets in a middle of nowhere to die, or drop them to kill shelters. Or sometimes some owners dont abandon but hurt, abuse and starve them at home. They can go to hell.
I noticed the note was in Spanish. If it was anywhere in México, this might have been the best way to go about it. I grew up in Tijuana. There were strays just about everywhere. My home had a pretty sizable yard and we owned 4 dogs. One morning when I was 12, I saw all our dogs very excited gathering by our gate. Someone had noticed how well taken care of and happy our dogs were that they dump a young puppy in. My dad was a bleeding heart and she was adopted on the spot. Our Alpha female turn into an instead surrogate mom lol. I named her Sandy 😊. ... We had 3 other forced adoptions throughout the years lol
cared so much and didn't write her name?
Omg 😭
To answer the question "What kind of human being would do this?": a desperate one, doing the best she/he/they could.
I had to do this when I was 18 yrs old. I'm 45 and the guilt has never left me. With tears in my eyes... Thank you. I have never been able to see it that way. But that was exactly the case. Thank you for understanding. Much love to you.
I had to give one of my dogs Duke away because I really didn't have an option and the guy who I gave him to contacted me a week later saying that he couldn't keep him because his neighbor freaked out and was scared he would attack his horses just because he was a pit bull. At this point I wasn't in town and I wrote back to him giving him ideas on what he could do in terms of building a dog run or giving it to someone he trusted. Because he was a big pit bull I was so scared of someone bad getting a hold of him and trying to use him in dog fights. Duke would never fight other dogs, and have read the horror stories what these monsters do to them and I never heard back from the man. I think about Duke everyday and feel so much guilt and pray that he had a wonderful life.
All you, or any of us, can do is our best one day at a time. Forgive yourself. It's time.
Unfortunately I have also done this and still feel guilty. I also had to have a dog put down but couldn't face staying with her. It's been many years since all this happened but I feel guilty every day. I now help advocate for Pitties and donate to shelters every chance I can. I don't do it to aliviate my guilt, I do it to make up for my insensitivity. I have 2 rescues now and I will never let them down!! I love them too much!!!
I had to do this too when I was 16 with my cat. I'm 31, almost 32 now and the guilt is still just as fresh.
The blanket looks as it belonged to a little girl, the pink leash indicates the same. The bag of food is not cheap and the handwritten, grammarly correct note indicate some concern for Lua's wellbeing. She's seems to be in good condition, comes to show that she was not neglected. In brazilian portuguese, "me desculpe" means more than simply "I'm sorry", it's more like "I did not want to to this". I agreee with the comments, the previous owner was probably left with no other option and tried to give this girl a better chance, ratter than simply abandon her.
Thanks for a translation which cleaves more closely to the heartbreaking essence of the situation.
Thank you for translating, thats quite a different note now!
