An Encounter With One Of The Rarest Wild Cats On Earth

Hi! I’m Shady Ramzy a wildlife photographer who after spending two months in the rainforest, was lucky to meet the rare Sunda Clouded Leopard.

Two hours after sunset while exploring Kinabatangan Rainforest in Malaysian Borneo, we spotted this Sunda Clouded Leopard. He stayed asleep for around 30 minutes before he woke up, looked around, and decided it was time to get down and move deeper into the jungle. After the leopard was gone, I looked at my right to find a Red Leaf Monkey watching the Leopard leaving the area. And he seemed relieved; as you may know, monkeys are possible prey for the leopard.

The Sunda Clouded Leopard is quite rare to be seen or photographed in the wild as it’s a secretly-living creature. It was reclassified in 2006 as a seprate species from the Clouded Leopard in Asia’s Mainland, which makes it the recent cat species to be discovered, it’s also believed to be firstly caught on video in 2010. Not to mention that Sunda Clouded Leopard is the best tree-climber among all cats and the smallest of Big Cats.

It was such a thrill meeting this Leopard at night, my eyes didn’t dare to leave the viewfinder but for checking the photos.
