“People Think I’m Still In My 20s”: 63-Year-Old Mom Unlocks The Secret To Looking Younger Every Year

Drinking from the fountain of youth, now that’s an outdated tale. The real solution to remaining youthful? It is a lot simpler and accessible than you might think.

Taking to her TikTok account followed by over 247,000 people, Gym Tan, a fitness fanatic, had a special message in celebration of her 63rd birthday last week, as she shared the secret to staying young.

Gym Tan, a 63-year-old mom who has run three marathons, shared the secret to staying youthful

The fitness enthusiast who has run three marathons expressed her belief that she is maturing gracefully, comparing it to aging like a fine wine, as she said in a video: “I said before that I actually think I look younger this year than I did last year.”

Adorned in a stylish black dress complemented by color-coordinated yellow, black, and white jewelry, the mum of two from Singapore conveyed to her fans: “I think that what is keeping me looking younger is not thinking about my age.

Also known as “California is too casual”, the fit mom wanted people to think of age as just a number

“Age is just a number. I have said it before, but more than that, just focus on what makes you happy.

“Focus on what makes you feel good. So, I always think, ‘if something looks good, smells good and tastes good, it’s good for you.’”

Gym Tan, who is known as @californiaistoocasual on TikTok, emphasized the value of having a supportive circle of individuals who cherish and care for you while also imparting diverse life lessons.

In a previous video on TikTok, Gym introduced herself as a “fit and active” 62-year-old who lived in California with her children and husband.

The now-63-year-old recalled being in the clothing business for 28 years, spending about 26 of these years in Hong Kong, where she met her “wonderful husband”.

Eight years ago, Gym and her family moved to the California Bay Area, where she made the “surprising” discovery to see “everyone in the fashion business dressed in their leggings and puffer jackets,” prompting her to name her TikTok handle “California is too casual”.

The fit mom went on to express her social media’s motto: “life gets better and style has no age”.

Gym’s TikTok account is filled with age positivity clips and motivational videos where she encourages her viewers to pamper themselves and do physical activity.

Two years ago, Gym went viral when she uploaded a video of herself jogging in the street with the following caption: “I’m 61 and this is the fittest and best shape I’ve been in my life!

“I’m running further and stronger than in my 20s.

“So don’t be afraid of getting older, life really can and does get better.”

I was thinking the same. She's a beautiful woman, there's no need to lie like that. People can be old and beautiful.

Nobody thinks that lady is in her 20's. She looks in good shape, but I would have guessed she's in her 50 or 60's.

40s at most. But definitely not 20s. TBH, people who look younger than their actual age can usually only pull off looking at most 20 years younger. So a 63 years old can only realistically look like they’re about 43 if they’re lucky. Besides, our hands will always give us away. Hers are not the hands of a twentysomething. Additionally, you don’t see forehead and armpit wrinkles on a twentysomething either. She looks good for her age, and more power to her, but come on, be honest with us. And yourself. BTW, I’m 62, and the last time I was mistaken for someone in their twenties was when I was 36. Hell, if someone genuinely thinks I look 5 or 10, years younger than my actual age, I’m grateful. I’m self-aware enough to know that if someone says I look like I’m still in my 20s, they are either full of s**t or trying to butter me up for some reason, and my spidey sense immediately sounds the “RED FLAG!” alarm.

Good for you on all of that. Be the best you that you can be. But no, don't try to make us think people are telling you that they think you're in your 20's. You look like my 65 year old friend Marnie but a little shinier.

Honestly, I thought they were going to say she was in her late 70s or 80s but looks younger. I don’t know if she just doesn’t photograph well, but in these she looks at least 10 years older than 63. Oh…and I’m 65 so it’s not like I’m some kid thinking she’s ancient😂

Glad she's feeling happier with herself, now, but you can tell she's had face fillers and a lift, at least, at some point in her life. Reminds me of my mom, (except my mom would never do cosmetic surgery.) forever chasing youth out of fear of growing old and dying. I understand that fear. On the positive side, this fear is what motivates people into wanting to live as healthy as possible so they don't have to age in agony, or try not to, preventing dying in earlier. My mom walks long hours most days, exercises, dances, eats as healthy as possible and tries to take care of her skin, just like this lady. But with this obsession of youth reveals insecurities. For ex. my mom will not go out the door without makeup and her hair done. She doesn't care how long others have to wait for her. I see it as debilitating and selfish. Sure this lady is showing herself as simply being active, but the intent of flaunting herself as appearing young is what I notice the most.

Staying fit because you enjoy the exercise and feel it's good for you is a great thing. Bragging how you look like 20 when you're 60 just shows that no, you haven't accepted your age. You still buy into that s**t that we must look 'young' all the time.

Adding to the general consensus: she looks like she’s in her late 40s. I’m her age and look younger, courtesy of just … bicycling a few times a week forever. Oh, and the single thing that’s saving her: despite my name, I’m genetically Chinese. We just age slower (on the outside).

Sorry, thats a bit harsh. But anyone who makes such an effort purely to attain comments and (fake) compliments from others, is seriously wasting their life. Be fit, be healthy, be happy, but don't be vain.
