Long distance relationships are hard, but also incredible. Distance gives us a reason to love harder, and while long distance relationships can make the heart grow fonder, they don’t come without their fair share of trials.

1. JEALOUSY

It’s hard to push your feelings aside and not get jealous. Specially when you see pictures of them on their social media with other people wishing it was you instead. Jealousy here and there is always normal in long distance relationships, but overwhelming jealousy is not. Communicate with them the different reasons you get jealous so that you can both work on maintaining the trust needed to make it work.

2. UNREASONABLE EXPECTATIONS

It is crucial that the both of you are on the same page. You can’t expect your partner to do something you’re not willing to do yourself for the relationship. Transparency is key. Always communicate and get on Skype so that you guys can see each other until you can be in each other’s arms. Let them know what you expect, this will avoid confusion and hurt feelings.

3. DON’T STOP LIVING YOUR LIFE

It is really unhealthy to lose yourself trying to keep up with the demands of your partner. Both of you should be able to live your lives without feeling like your partner will get mad if you go out. Dropping night out with your friends, or movie night just to Skype can have you feeling trapped in the long run. You might start to resent your partner. Being too dependent on one another can cause unnecessary strain on the relationship.

4. TEMPTED TO CHEAT

Temptations happen in all relationships not just those dealing with the long distance in between. However temptation can be significantly harder if you haven’t physically been with you partner in such a long time. You can get easily caught in the moment and think your partner will never find out. If that’s your attitude then it would be better if you break it off and let them know you rather be with someone who is closer to you. Don’t string them along.

5. LONG DISTANCE SEEMS NEVER ENDING.

You want to be with them already but your long distance relationship seems never ending, and you start to get frustrated. If the two of you have been together for years and you prefer to live in New York, while he prefers California, maybe its time to accept that the two of you are not meant to be. Maybe later on in life you two will meet and be able to be with each other physically but until either one of you decides to move to be with one another it will remain the same.
