“They Don’t Know What Grass Is”: Over 4000 Beagles Got Rescued From A Medical Facility, And Now They Are In Dire Need Of New Homes
It is sad to think that in our day and age, for some companies, animal testing still seems like a necessity as some of them go as far as doing it illegally, away from the public eye where they can face less backlash. Most of these animals suffer in horrible and inhumane conditions as companies make millions off of them.
Today’s story is sadly one of those, but thankfully with a better ending than most of them. Recently the U.S. Department of Justice made a plea to the Humane Society of the United States and their shelter partners, asking them to remove around 4,000 beagles from a breeding facility that supplied laboratories that test on animals.
What happened next was truly a historic moment in the fight against animal cruelty.

Nursing mother beagles were denied food; the food that they did receive contained maggots, mold, and other things

In the midst of all of this, the Humane Society of the United States called out to their partners in hopes of finding the dogs new homes

Over 400 dogs were rescued just this week alone and are in urgent need of homes and rehabilitation

“We don’t know what condition these poor pups will arrive in, but we want to make sure that we give them every possible chance at living happy, healthy lives,” a Facebook post said

Donations are currently being raised in hopes of helping the dogs as soon as possible

As of now, the Humane Society of West Michigan is holding a fundraiser and working to rescue, medically treat and relocate the dogs

The process requires an enormous undertaking that needs the help of veterinarians, volunteers, and drivers

I have a coworker who has a beagle he adopted a few years ago from a corporate lab round up. He has little number tattoos on the insides of his ears. It's heartbreaking to hear about these sweeties.

Having id tattoos on the ears used to be a common caring dog owner's thing before microchipping them became possible. Of course his tattoos are from a far more sinister source, but try not feel too bad about them so you won't get him sad. He's accidentally 80s retro or something

What they are NOT telling is that these research facilities are funded by us tax payers!! Most of these poor dogs have never seen the light of day or been outside of a cage, it's horrific.

I know about such facilities, I´d signed the Peta petition and had published it on Facebook and Twitter.

A Peta success, I´d signed that petition against Envigo and got the update via newsletter a few days ago yet. Whoever wants to adopt one of the pups has to know that they´ll adopt a "raw diamond", a pup who lerarned nothing all, usually they´re not even house-trained, but it CAN work, here in Germany we have some organisations that adopted out previous lab Beagles very often yet. But the new owners will have to invest a lot of love, time and patience in the education of the pups. Good luck to all 4.000 of them.

Heads up, if PETA had their way, the beagles would have been euthanized. PETA is pretty terrible and has a record or wasting money on frivolous lawsuits while quickly killing animals surrendered at their shelters. I'm glad these pups are being adopted out and it really shows we need a robust animal welfare organization that does regular inspections so breeders have to keep their animals at a humane quality of life

I really hope these beagles find good, loving homes. They have been through too much. It should be illegal to torture animals for "science."

Absolutely appalling that they’re in these conditions to start with, but massive kudos to everyone involved in the rescue effort! By the way, if you’re getting a dog and do not wish to financially support organisations like these, PLEASE do your research! Many factory breeders, or puppy mills, disguise themselves as reputable breeders (and even get sponsored by companies such as the American Kennel Club) when their conditions are just as bad as the ones shown here. The Illuminaughtii has a pretty good expose video to do with puppy mills she made after being tricked into buying her pup Casper from one of these places and he arrived permanently sick. This is absolutely heartbreaking. Mass breeding for animal testing is an absolutely vile practice. So many of these poor dogs are probably highly traumatised due to being mistreated and subjected to horrible medical testing experiments. I do hope that they all find loving homes where they can run, play, and be loved like actual dogs and not test subjects.

A pox and a hex on such medical facilities who do medical research & testing on animals, keep them hungry, feeds animals sub standard food, ill treat animals & keep them in small cages.
