27 Incredible Sculptures From Abode Of Chaos, A Fantasmagoric Place In Europe

From Postman Cheval’s Ideal Palace to thierry Ehrmann’s Abode of Chaos (the “Postman Cheval of the 21st Century”).

Over the past 13 years, in my battle against those forces working against me, my dizzy nights have often been spent thinking about a man who – just 100 km from here and a century earlier – had experienced the same pain as me, but, like me, possessed the same strength of conviction as cathedral builders. In response to his phrase “Life without purpose is a chimera. Where dreams become reality” I painted “You should explore Utopia, dreams are reality” on the principal facade of the Abode of Chaos.
I was naturally very pleased to discover in the book Avec le Facteur Cheval published in 2007, and edited by the Musée de La Poste in Paris and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux- Arts, in the chapter Cheval and his foals the following reference on page 18: From Juan Garcia Naveira’s fantasy park in Betanzos, Galicia, (commented in 1893), to Jean Linard’s Cathedral of Wind, and Florence Maire’s Forge in Honfleur, not to mention the houses of Picassiette and Tatin and Chomo’s Village of Preludian Art and Arthur Vanabelle’s farm… and then there is thierry Ehrmann’s Abode of Chaos, called the “Postman Cheval of the 21st Century”.

Located in a little historical french village, the Abode of Chaos is an outdoor Contemporary museum, exhibiting thousands of in situ works of art: paintings & sculptures.

“Why?” is the first question I have been asked a thousand times by the visitors, stunned by Abode of Chaos. This dementia of artistic creation, the power of its creative madness have since milleniums made it possible for mankind to build temples, catacombs, mass graves, labyrinths, cathedrals of light… To your actual question “why this darkness?” would therefore simply answer: “when you see the darkness, rejoice for the Opus starts now…”
