2020 Is Beginning To Feel Like Armageddon And In A Small Town In Nz An Artist Has Recreated It.
Aphantasia Artist Jules Rees has recreated this epic biblical story out of mixed media. It took 18 months to create and it was a harrowing journey into the dark side of the Bible. This Covid -19 pandemic has resurfaced some of the feelings I had while creating this piece.
The Book of Revelations is a powerful book to read, and I didn’t just read it once, I had to read it over and over again in order to create this magnificent piece. This took its toll on me. I remember one night feeling paralysed in my bed and seeing a demon type creature looking over me. Words are powerful and they can unlock parts of the mind.
Over 18 months I had a relationship with this book and the horrors my mind went to are much like what is happening now in the world. This feels like one of the seals has opened up and unleashed its pain on the world. Thank goodness for my Aphantaisa because if I could visualise I might have been sent mad doing this piece.
The one thing I did get from this book in the end was a feeling of inner calm, strangely enough once you see it for what it is it is rather a beautiful book.
