Rocky, a 17-year-old stray dog, has been in and out in a shelter since 2012. His golden years didn’t seem promising until a young couple arrived at his shelter. They went there to donate but then they saw Rocky. The couple adopted him immediately.
“We were there to donate all kinds of stuff that I rounded up with my military community and I saw rocky walk in and I couldn’t stop thinking about that adorable old face,” Beth, Rocky’s human mom, told Bored Panda. “Next thing I know I’m walking out with Rocky!”
Rocky was in bad shape the first few days but after a bath and finding some good joint and health medicine to put him on we found his personality was sparky and fun. He sings and dances with us and love to follow wherever we go. Rocky knows his age but he still pushes his limits to all kind of thing, his spirit is absolutely amazing!
Rocky may have had some bad years but I made a promise to him however long he may be here will be filled with joy and love and lots of treats. He defiantly brought a missing puzzle piece into our life and we are more than happy to be his parents.”

“I took you on knowing we were going to have to take extra care of you”

“I knew one day I was going to have to carry you up the stairs when you no longer have the strength to do it”

“I knew you were going to…lose your hearing and eyesight and we were going to have to spend extra money to make the house safer for you”

“I knew one day I am going to have to say goodbye to you”
“But until then you are the best gift I have ever gotten and I’m really sad I couldn’t give you the best 17 years you deserved”

“I promise you’ll have a great life from now to the day I have to say goodbye!”

“I took you on knowing we were going to have to take extra care of you. Knowing that one day you weren’t going to make it outside in time to use the restroom and I would have to clean it up, I knew one day I was going to have to carry you up the stairs when you no longer have the strength to do it. I knew you were going to eventually lose your hearing and eyesight and we were going to have to spend extra money to make the house safer for you. I knew one day I am going to have to say goodbye to you. But until then you are the best gift I have ever gotten and I’m really sad I couldn’t give you the best 17 years you deserved but I promise you’ll have a great life from now to the day I have to say goodbye!”
Thank you, Beth, for talking to Bored Panda about your wonderful story!

I want to tell Beth and her husband you are the most WONDERFUL people! I wish more people would adopt senior animals and give them the love and compassion that they deserve! For being a young couple you are very wise in your years! Be very proud of yourselves! You are one in many that understands what the word RESPECT means in this world now a days! Thank you for being YOU!
I wish more folks would take older pets...including cats. They weren't born in a shelter and are often very confused...and they make wonderful pets. I found an old cat who was dying, arthritic, teeth rotting, skinny, covered with fleas and allergic to them. I took him home, good vet visit, 5 teeth pulled and some anti bi's and he had the best 3.5 year retirement he could have had. Clung to me like an old coat.
I cant read English perfectly. but the letter makes me cry. angels met angel! thank you!
That's OK. Your heart read the letter for you :-)

Bless your hearts! There is nothing more heartbreaking to me than to see an elderly pet dumped at a shelter, and nothing makes me more ANGRY! Every time I see one, I swear I can imagine SO distinctly what that poor animal must be feeling. So frightened, abandoned, absolutely heartbroken and shattered. Do people really NOT know what they are to that animal??? I cannot even comprehend of what is missing inside a person to just walk away from that animal that they have had for years and not even bat an eye! YOU are that animals ENTIRE WORLD!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! A million times thank you! To ALL of the people that adopt an elderly animal. May you truly be blessed! I know for sure you will be blessed by the love and gratitude that the pet will heap upon you!
mAY the good Lord bless you many times over for taking this sweet old dog home to love out the rest of its life with you. Be gentle, be loving, be caring. These are the sweetest times of life between you and your pet. <3 Enjoy every day!

I had my morgan for 17 years. she was a lot like rocky from the sounds of it. caring for a senior dog is not easy but believe me they appreciate everything you do for them. the last year I had to carry morgan up and down the stairs. many times I was shampooing the carpets every other day when she didn't realize what was happening. it was sometimes frustrating but when they look in your eyes and thank you for the help its all worth it. your helping rocky to keep his dignity, which at that age is huge. they will let you know when its time but cherish every moment till then, senior dogs are the best dogs!
Awwww.....Love this story!!! YaY for Rocky and YaY for the young couple who decided to adopt him!!!! Senior dogs are wonderful!!!!
God bless those who have no voice and cannot help themselves, and the people who love them. He is their gift from God and they his.
