Person Takes A Job Offer Just To Be Able To Not Show Up After Getting Disrespected During The Job Interview

Going out there and looking for a job can be a stressful experience, especially if it’s going to be one of your first paid gigs. The whole process, from finding listings that seem appealing to you, writing and sending out your resume, and, finally, going through job interviews is typically not necessarily something most would label as “fun.” Experiences as such can vary, of course, but for most people, they are at least a little stress-inducing, which is why a smooth hiring process from the company’s side is important.

Some companies, however, care little about all that, and as a consequence, the job hunting experience can be even more stressful than usual for some. In the case of Reddit user u/LazyMLouie, it was exactly that. The user was going to a trade school to become an electrical technician, and found a job offer through career services that was too good to pass up. Scroll down for the whole story.

Job interviews can be stressful, especially when they don’t go according to plan

Getting a job is typically a challenge in some ways, regardless of the position you’re going for. For that reason, the job interview stage is usually somewhat predictable in the sense that you can prepare yourself for it. There might be some surprises, of course, but nothing you can’t get ready for. Until you actually have to face something nobody would be ready for.

The Reddit user begins his story by saying he found out about a job that’s too good to pass on

It is no wonder the original poster (OP) began suspecting that something was off when he was told that the manager is always late. But considering the employer was offering over 3 times the minimum hourly wage in the listing, it is not exactly surprising OP still kept a shred of optimism as he waited.

The manager was still nowhere to be seen, while the interviewee was only staying out of “greed”

The irony here is pretty clear—an employer is having trouble finding workers when he treats candidates in a fairly humiliating manner. If some employers are actually acting this way, it is no surprise some people are daunted by the prospect of being duped in one way or another during the process.

As the old saying goes, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The job market is full of employers ready to trick and exploit for the sake of profit, which is why you can never be too careful when applying for a job. Although the case of u/LazyMLouie is definitely rather special, it just goes to show how some employers take up some rather over-the-top tactics so they can benefit their business, while leaving out the worker.

My last main job I left at $16.25 an hour. After 5.5 years. Because I wasn't given an assistant with brains to train. I wasn't given help. I ran jobs so fast that I was making too much money for the owner so he bought a second business, which half that staff quit within a week. When I received an injury at the job by two co workers complete stupidity, I was told it was my fault not to direct them. I was working at a machine with my back to them. I decided I was done. My joy of working there was gone. I passed two other jobs because they stared full time then pulled up with oh we can only do part time til holidays or we only promote to full time from within. Then I found a job doing something I love and at a great pay rate with ins and benefits. Move on when you lose the joy.

I would rather bluntly tell the employer how rude he was rather than just not show up for work.

I accepted a job in college and was supposed to start the following Monday. The next day I was offered a better job out of the blue. I called the 1st job and was directed to the managers' voicemail. I left a voicemail thanking them for the opportunity & explaining the situation. Never got a call back. Three weeks later she called me, absolutely furious. She informed me that if I didn't show up to work on time the next day I was fired. I tried explaining the situation but she wouldn't let me talk, and starting insulting me. I hung up on her. A few days later I received a letter in the mail letting me go, along with a check for two weeks' pay.

I used to work in a human resources department for a fairly large company. We would fly in engineers from all across the US. Candidates would have to interview with several people within the company, starting with an interviewer in the HR department. This gal would have people wait for over 45 minutes before she would come out to get them. I asked her why she did this and her reply was she just wanted them to wait. Infuriating and embarrassing she would do such a thing. Her manager never called her on it.

This is so dumb because the best candidates get multiple offers. If someone made me wait 45 minutes to start an interview and everything else was equal I'd pick the company that didn't make me wait.

Update: He said he's going to go with JoshSweat's idea of texting every hour to say he's almost there, then admitting that "I like making my employer wait to see if they're patient". Sadly, he has not commented on the follow-up reply to this, which was "Then say you can’t take the job unless you’re making $40/hr. You always agree to a lower salary before hand so you can get more jobs."

Managers be wondering why they have no people when the pay is literally too low to live off of and they treat their people so poorly, but insist we're supposed to deal with it. Nah. You have people that wanna work. Those people also wanna be treated like PEOPLE
