This Online Group Is Dedicated To The Dumbest Work Safety Examples, Here Are 40 Of The Worst (New Pics)
Workplace safety is no joke. It’s a very serious issue that affects all of us, whether we’re working in construction or sitting cozily in a cubicle. Hazards like crumbling ceilings, frayed wires, and the scourge of humanity that is asbestos can make your day go from fine to horrible. However, there’s humor to be found even in risky and dangerous situations.
The r/OSHA subreddit, named after the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, is dedicated to sharing lighthearted photos of people throwing work safety out the window. It’s all about having a bit of fun despite the obviously risky behavior the people in the images are engaging in (please don’t do what they do!).
Upvote the photos that really got your heart racing and let us know if you’ve ever been in a similar situation, Pandas. Still in the mood to feel better about just how safe you feel at your job? When you’re done enjoying this list, we invite you to have a look through Bored Panda’s previous articles about the legendary subreddit, r/OSHA, right here, here, as well as here. Happy scrolling! Just make sure to hang on tight, the railing’s a bit wobbly.

Is it possible to secure a rock that size so it won't do that? Or would you have to take the cables off the Golden Gate Bridge?
You don't transport a lump of rock like that in a shipping container. You use a flatbed trailer and several tie-downs with a minimum breaking strain of 20 tons each.

Load More Replies...This chassis may be equipped to offload the container to the ground for prolonged use at a particular location, and they may have requested that it be placed door-out.
Load More Replies...The subreddit has nearly 755k members and has recently celebrated its 8th birthday. r/OSHA has been showing off the comedic side of work safety hazards since the beginning of August 2013, and we’re incredibly glad that they exist.
There’s nothing like a few of r/OSHA’s best photos to get the adrenaline pumping through your veins. (Though if you’re terrified of heights like I am, you might want to glance away at some key moments, dear Readers. I literally got chills from some of these photos.)

What's wrong with this? this is probably how scafolding was originally made.
One of the subreddit’s moderators, reddtior -eDgAR-, previously spoke to my colleague about the online group. “It's not meant to be a place for serious discussions about safety, although, oftentimes comments can actually get into great analysis about the issues shown in posts, which is great," the mod told Bored Panda during an earlier interview.
According to -eDgAR-, timing is incredibly important when it comes to whether or not a particular photo or post might go viral. “We don't get a crazy amount of posts like other subreddits and have seen days with only a handful of posts. If you're one of the lucky first, chances are you'll get to the top,” they said.
There Has To Be A Better Way
The pole is what is known as a defuse rod and is made of fibreglass. They are designed to allow high voltage switches (or links) to be operated from the ground. I'm not sure whether they are supposed to be used when standing in 5ft of water, but he's probably doing that to kill the power to the submerged transformers. It may even be that the line has been turned off further up and he is now isolating just the submerged substation so that they can get other people back on supply. It just looks like a really bad idea!
Bingo. Ideally, no, not in 5 ft of water, but he's probably checking for current and praying he doesn't catch an arc.

The subreddit values original content very much, so if you have anything at all to submit, you should go for it! There are some rules that you should be aware of, however.
For example, you have to post funny scenes from your actual job, as well as its training or instructional videos. In other words, you can’t post any content that isn’t original. Which sounds absolutely fair! Keep in mind, though, that you can only post photos. Actual videos (or articles) are disallowed.
When You Don't Properly Secure Your Load
flashed back to seeing the driver of a rig after this happened. He was more or less still seated, with less of him being seated than being spattered through the windshield onto the hood. Never saw an EMT vomit like that. I honestly didn't realize it was a person till I was done with first aid on the EMT. And then I passed out cold. And the EMT revived me. It was kinda farcical, in a macabre way, but it's not like we could save the driver. And that's why I freak out if I see rigs carrying lumber or logs. You're welcome.

Load More Replies...Serious work safety hazards are a daily part of life for structural inspectors. Unlike the people who get featured on r/OSHA, they’re very serious about staying safe. Earlier, I had a chat with a couple of structural inspectors from Alpha Structural, Inc., in California. Derek Marier shared with Bored Panda one of his “most nightmarish inspections” at a property in Portuguese Bend on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
"First off, because of soil conditions and high landslide risks, not much structural work can be performed there," Derek explained about the nightmarish property. “The home had a very interesting foundation system made up of screw jacks, steel beams, and cribbing (commonly used for temporarily lifting a structure while work is being done underneath).”
Nothing Wrong Here?
Come on, be fair. Maybe he doesn't have to turn a single corner or bend in the road.

Warehouse workers MUST be treated better. The way Amazon treats their employees is unconscionable. The pay is good, but the expectations and treatment is subhuman.
If you ask employees to work their ass off, no breaks and treat them like s**t. You'll end up with a lot of accidents due to fatigue, hunger, thirst,. F**K AMAZON. Evilcorp
Stop shopping at amazon. Maybe then they'll decide to treat their staff and the environment with a shred of respect.
I love how they deflect the blame back on the employee who got injured…evil.

He continued: “The front portion of the deck and home was sinking and unfortunately, the homeowner can’t really do much about it. It could have toppled over at any given moment and that’s why the 'nightmarish' description fits well," Derek explained.
According to Derek, safety is absolutely vital for everyone working at Alpha Structural, Inc. “Crawl suits, masks, gloves, steel-toed boots, and many other forms of safety precautions are taken. The chance that a building is actually going to fall over when we do our work is slim to none. Any actual danger is sniffed out pretty quick and avoided. If our guys think it’s unsafe to inspect or work on a location, they’ll make a call based on their best judgment and sometimes they choose to not do it. That’s just our safety policy!"

Um, those bright flares aren't just sparks. Those are slivers of metal. At the very least, protect your face. You only have one of those, it contains most of your senses, and if severely injured, the majority of it won't grow back. Don't gamble with your face.
Indeed. Always protect your eyes. The hot metal slivers are inconvenient if on your skin, I know from experience. When I hobby I'm not the greatest on safety, I'll admit, but eye protection lies on every piece of equipment in my shed.

But for once in American governance, they have an agency that will rain down fury on companies who are negligent for accidents. Well known that you do not want to get on their bad side and they damn near always side with the employee when proper documentation has been recorded. They will shut a place down for a bruised toe nail if it was avoidable.
Load More Replies...Meanwhile, Ben Reinhart from Alpha Structural, Inc. shared his own experience with one of the most unsafe homes that he inspected. He visited this particular ‘gem’ back in 1992.
“We went to a 3-story hillside home located in Playa del Rey. The condition of the soil supporting the home was so bad that, during our assessment, we found that the home was cracking and actually moving. We are not alarmists in any sense but this was the first time we had to evacuate,” Ben shared with Bored Panda.

“Temporary shoring was put in the next morning to prevent the home from collapsing. The complexity of the repair required, getting a large rig on a steep hillside to excavate a 55’ deepened foundation, made this one of the worst, most challenging in our long history. I Don't Think This Is How You Should Handle Asbestos
This is a death sentence for someone. There is no safe level of Asbestos exposure.
There's nothing dangerous about asbestos until someone breaks a piece off and inhales the cloud of dust. Thats what makes removing it the most dangerous part.
Eh that's valid for asbestos used in some intact form, say asbestos-cement (10% asbestos). This is already fluffy goodness, floating around. And "Put in dumpster" is straightforward illegal.

When I was about 10 or 11, I saw a pickup truck with a patio table and chair right behind the cab driving on the interstate. Not sure if it was anchored down, but I sure hope so. There was a young man, looked about 15 or 16 years old, sitting in the chair. Speed limit was 60 mph back in those days. He was totally still, gripping the arms of the chair, and had a terrified look on his face (well duh). Yep, sounded good in theory. Was risky and terrifying in practice, at least at that speed (or any speed over 10 mph, tbh).

Fall Protection Pin Nearly Worn Through! Almost Looks Cut Intentionally? Guesses?
Ok everyone saying it was cut but it wasn't. We use those in the DC I work in and have found a few like this before and traced it back to the worker sliding the thick nylon strap over their back and it catches on the pin. Over thousands of hours worked with that strap over your shoulder on the pin and it can cut through it. You aren't supposed to put the strap over your shoulder but some of the workers do bc they feel it's more comfortable.

Wait, to load trucks? You mean the truck literally needs to back in under the train car elevated by cinderbocks, have grain somehow funneled and filled then shut off from above, then drive away? Thanks, but no thanks.

I always tell my team this during the briefing: "Cat has 9 lives but you don't, and you also are not a character from Tom&Jerry"

I used to write manuals for a living, and yes warnings such as that are added because people have done what's being warned against. And someone will likely do it again. So the company needs to cover themselves for when they do.
