Son’s Coming Out Unravels Parents’ 20-Year Marriage As Dad Learns Wife Isn’t Who She Claimed To Be
Some people paint themselves as ‘progressive.’ But beneath the rainbow surface lies a dark and murky soul that only comes to light when provoked. For example, the white man who attends Black Lives Matter rallies and won’t allow his daughter to date outside of her race. Or the liberal mother who loves her son ‘unconditionally,’ until she finds out they’ll be marrying a man.
A father says he’s shocked that his wife’s true colors only emerged two decades after marrying her. It all unfolded after she learned that their teen son identifies as ace, and has no interest in dating anyone at all. The mom completely lost it, and the entire marriage is now on the rocks.

Can you imagine being a mother and looking at your child ONLY as a vehicle to bring you grandchildren? No value beyond that. No love or care for the son himself. But because she suffered a pregnancy loss and could not have more children, her son now exists in her mind as a way to "get" the children she didn't get to have. Miscarriage and infertility when you want children is devastating... pushing YOUR fertility/baby dreams onto *anyone* else is abhorrent.

Glad dad is finally facing up to his responsibility to make sure his son is treated respectfully in the home. The grandchildren thing is just a convenient explanation for bigotry - it's no different than "it's not Adam and Steve" it's just that she thinks a man who just lost a baby will give that more weight than any of the other dog whistle sound bites.

I'm glad this boy has such a good father, though his marriage seems like it's on very shaky ground. Having some differences in political opinions is one thing, but if those political beliefs sway too far, it becomes differences in morality, and that is often a deal-breaker for many people.
