Money can’t buy happiness. Complete b******t! Money buys tons of happiness and anyone who says it doesn’t is a liar or doesn’t know how to have a good time!
Even if money doesn't buy happiness, I would rather be rich and unhappy than poor and unhappy.

Load More Replies...But doesn't make you immune from depression etc, though it helps with bills!!
It makes it easier to get the medicaions to deal with depression and the like.
Load More Replies...It may not buy happiness, but it makes the road to it a lot smoother in many cases.
Money does not buy happiness. But it buys stability, security, living expenses, liesure time and the ocassional luxury. A person is more able to fulfill his or her dreams and goals if those are covered. You can explore a passtime, dwell on a hobby, travel or simply stop to enjoy life...
Yeah I laugh when people say this lol I'd be a whole lot happier not living paycheck to paycheck, being able to visit pandas on the other side of the pond!
happiness =/= fulfillment though. you can be happy, but rarely are people with money ever actually satisfied. rich folk still kill themselves all the time. I think some make it to the top and realize that what they spent their whole life chasing after wasn't actually worth it.
The lady who sued McDonalds for coffee being too hot was exaggerating and an opportunist. McDonald’s smeared her name. The poor woman needed skin grafts (!!!!) due to that coffee burn.
and she only asked for her medical bill to be covered at first? Some panda hopefully have some good links about this?
I can't hear it anymore...🙄...and the coffee has evaporated by now...stop this sneaky-subliminal surreptitious advertising! 🤭
Yeah their coffee is way too damn hot. As a veteran coffee drinker, I about burned my lips and tongue off..
She had 3rd degree burns so bad that they didn't know if she'd survive. She needed skin grafts. Imagine taking something out of the oven and putting it on your legs. McDonald's had over 700 complaints/ injuries up to that point about the coffee being too hot. McDonald's had their coffee at 160°-180°. She wasn't drinking. She was the passenger and her grandson was parked so she could add cream and sugar to her coffee. The people that were making fun of this case changed their minds when they saw pictures of her injuries
Sigh. Read about what McDonalds was doing with the coffee. Your willingness to side with the corporation at all costs will not make them treat you better than other consumers.

As we found out by reaching out to u/Clear-Type5753, that is precisely why they started this thread. “There’s so much misinformation out there, and people often guess or don’t research properly,” says the author, emphasizing just how much misinformation there is around us nowadays.
People love to talk about how pandas are incapable of surviving, and so evolutionarily incompetent that they need to be goaded into even reproducing.
In fact, pandas are very highly specialized and adapted to an ecological niche that was never under threat until human intervention. They're grazers in bamboo forests, which used to be an enormous biome, and their behavioral issues in captivity are just a result of not having access to even a reasonable approximation of that biome.
They evolved to be picky about food because they evolved surrounded on all sides by food and adapted to extract the best food efficiently, instead of clear-cutting their environment to get worse food. They evolved to patrol enormous territories because they evolved surrounded by endless usable habitat in all directions. It's not their fault that animals act weird when transplanted from their homes.
Shouldn't have the /s. Cause its true in this instance and many others.

As a dietitian, it drives me nuts when people say that iceberg lettuce is devoid of nutrition. A typical serving of 100 grams provides 17% of your daily Vitamin A and 20% of your Vitamin K requirements, all for just 14 calories. Plus, it's a good source of potassium, manganese, and fiber. So, it’s far from being “just water.” There's definitely nutritional value there.
I'll still do my spinach salads as I'm quite sure there are more nutrients in it (though slathering it in Blue cheese dressing and croutons my negate some of that)
My problem with lettuce is that the various dishes I like with it include unhealthy ingredients full of calories.
Great news! You need carbs, protein and fats to live and if you try to live off just the lettuce you’ll get sick.
Load More Replies...The marine biologists in Florida refuse to feed it to the manatees. They describe it as crunchy water. Gee, I wonder who I should listen to, the scientists or some dude on BP?
Cool. How much of your daily MACROnutrients does it provide? That’s what people are talking about.
Helping this cause, the OP also added their own contribution to this actively disproven “facts” list. They said that this so-called “truth” would be the belief many people have that a dog’s mouth is cleaner than a human’s. In reality, both humans’ and dogs’ mouths are full of many different species of microbes (at least 600 each), and comparing them is akin to apples and oranges.
The post received around 10,000 upvotes in no more than 2 days, to which the poster said, “I was excited and surprised by the overwhelming response.” In addition to that, being contacted by Bored Panda caught the author unexpectedly. According to them, this surprise was welcomed nonetheless, and they’re happy and honored to have the data of their post used to pursue the further extermination of this misinformation.
Trickle down economics.
Or huge tax breaks to "job creators". We are all job creators. We all shop, get haircuts, eat out etc.
And without us, there are no jobs and no businesses.
Load More Replies...I like to say that trickle down economics is giving more food to the overfed and telling the hungry more crumbs will fall off the table.
Take an opinion (any one will do), and post it as a true fact on a "false fact" thread . . . no need to prove it. Work complete.
There are just a lot of trolls on this site that go through and downvote everyone.
Load More Replies...Trickle down economics basic idea is that if Jeff bozos orders a yacht, he pays a company to build it, that company has employees who then buy groceries at the store which is how the groceries store pays its employees. Back to the yacht building company they need materials so they purchase wood from a lumber mill they have employees, they get raw wood from lumberjacks that get paid with the money from the yacht company. I hope this makes some since, the problem with this is the chokepoints at the CEOs, they stop alot of the money from trickling down.
trickle down works to a point, but greed stops it from working how it should. just like greed stops socialism from working how it should or democracy from working how it should.

Load More Replies...Downvoted for stating facts on a "false fact" thread. I feel sooo subversive! Here's something from Britannica: "supply-side economics, also called trickle-down economics, [is a] theory that focuses on influencing the supply of labour and goods, using tax cuts and benefit cuts as incentives to work and produce goods. It was expounded by the U.S. economist Arthur Laffer (b. 1940) and implemented by Pres. Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. Supporters point to the economic growth of the 1980s as proof of its efficacy; detractors point to the massive federal deficits and speculation that accompanied that growth.
Detractors also point to the recession that followed these tax cuts.

That you can catch a cold from being outside in the cold. You become more susceptible, but the actual cold is a virus you can only catch from other people.
Has anybody in the past 75 years EVER actually thought that a cold was literally caused by being in the cold? When they say they caught a cold from being outside, wasn't that always just a shorthand for "I caught a cold that I otherwise might not have, because being in the cold made me more susceptible"? I've heard people say it, and every single one understands about viruses and knows being in the cold doesn't directly cause a cold.
Yes, my mother. Not only can you catch a cold by not being properly dressed but apparently you can also catch it by not covering your kidneys with warm clothes. Yeah.....so much misinformation over the years. As I look back at my childhood, I realised I wasn't raised right.
Load More Replies...It’s not like fake news is something fresh and unfamiliar to us. So why do people keep falling for it despite that? This question led us to do more research, coming across an article by the Center for Information Technology & Society.
Surprisingly, gullibility is not to blame here. According to the article, falling prey to misinformation most often happens due to cognitive biases, also known as mental shortcuts and automatic processes meant to make our lives easier, which we all have.
The whole alpha wolf thing
This study was done on captive wolves, so it was essentially like thinking you are an expert on human behavior because you studied prisoners. In reality, wolf packs are families, and the 'alphas' are the parents. It is their job to keep the other members of the pack protected and well fed and happy. So that guy at the amusement park with the waist pack full of snacks, making sure his kids are safely having fun and everyone is well fed and hydrated? That is the truest alpha male you will ever find.
I like the alfa from the computer programmer view when this is brought up! alpha = unstable release.
Way too many Confederate States of America apologists still out there. The war was over slavery. Not taxes, tariffs, exports, states rights or any of the other tired excuses.
So, this basically reduces the whole conflict to being the answer to a Trivial Pursuit question. Slavery was indeed a primary reason but for the south it was one more of economics than morality. If slavery had been the sole reason, then the North would have been wise to jet let the South go. Pressure to be recognized as a legitimate sovereign nation, especially by European countries would have eventually led the Confederacy to free the slaves themselves. With that issue no longer standing in the way both sides would have come to the conclusion that they should reunite. The problem with this scenario is that it doesn't take into account other factors such as the North's economic domination of the South and States' rights. Please don't trivialize this terrible chapter in American history by saying it was about one thing and one thing only. That's just an insult to the memories of those that fought and died on both sides of the conflict.
It feels good to be a rebel. It feels good to be an oppressor. Confederate nostalgists enjoy the best of both worlds
From someone living in the south with a lot of these people hanging around, the biggest excuse is "it was over states' rights!" My answer: states' rights to do what, exactly? Because slavery is the answer. Sure, states rights was a factor, but it was a factor because they wanted to use every angle, including taxes, tariffs, exports, and states' rights to keep slavery.
It was about states rights. Specifically southern states right to keep slaves and a good portion of the soldiers who fought for the confederacy were traitors to the United States. Traitors should not get statues celebrating them.
Slavery was a state right, it wasn't addressed in the constitution so it goes to the states, like what happened with abortion, the federal government said no more slavery (hooray), but it still overstepped its rights as the government. So that's the reason for the Civil War it was for state rights, slavery was just the main reason for that conversation.
From Georgia's Declaration of Succession:" “For the last ten years we have had numerous and serious causes of complaint against our non-slave-holding confederate States with reference to the subject of African slavery." The ownership of human beings as chattle was absolutely the reason for succession. It was dressed up a state's rights.
Load More Replies...Cotton. The south had cotton and slavery. It made cotton a profitable business. If the slaves were freed (or paid), the industry would make much less money selling it. The English didn’t want to pay more for cotton, so they were helping the Confederacy to keep cotton cheaper. Money, money, money, it’s always about money.
Same with the apologists of Nazi or Japanese war crimes or several dictatorships in Latin America...
100% completely oversimplified, to say the absolute least. There were slaves in northern states, also...
Some Southern slave states - Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland, and Deleware - did not join the Confederacy, and so slavery remained legat there until the ratification of the 13th Amendment in late 1865. But they were still Southern states. By 1804, slavery had been outlawed in every Northern state, and most long before that.
Load More Replies...Yes it was but it wasn't single dimensional. There was friction between the north and the south that had nothing to do with slavery. Saying this is not being an "apologist". Many in the North didn't care one bit about slavery.
One of the main culprits here is confirmation bias. It causes people to seek, favor, and remember information in a way that would confirm their preexisting beliefs.
However, the list of cognitive biases significantly affecting our information use doesn’t stop here. For instance, we tend to act without fully understanding the information in front of us, reacting to and forming opinions based on the attention-grabbing titles and not reading the article they’re connected to.
Cracking your knuckles causes arthritis
If it did cause arthritis, I would suffer in almost every joint in my body.
That people used to only live to age 30 in the past. I can't believe how often people still mention this misconception. Average mortality rate ≠ individual life expectancy
This myth drives me nuts. Mainly it was childhood diseases killing a lot before age 5. Once you made it to that age, life expectancy was probably in the 70s nearly everywhere that wasn't extremely over-populated or suffering a famine.
Infections, accidents, and childbirth regularly killed people of all ages. If you managed to avoid those things, yes, you could live to your 70's and beyond.
Yes less people lived to what many consider old age by today's standards. But the reason they did is because there was a lot more you could die from years and years ago that we can now treat. People also fail to describe what "in the past" means too. Average mortality rate does fluctuate and is certainly higher now than it has been at times in the past, but a lot of that has to to with more modern medicine and the whole "when we know better, we do better". People by and large, today, have a greater potential to live longer than their great great great + ancestors did, because they have access to things those ancestors didn't, including knowledge.(whether or not we all properly utilize, or can, that access and knowledge). It's not a "false fact", just a poorly explained one, and the "age 30" is exaggerated. Provided one didn't run into medical issues, or people with heinous motives, even great great great + ancestors could get "old". But less of them did, and there were less people overall.
🤦♂️ lots and lots just died really early due du s****y conditions. It's not they where sent to Ättestupa when they turned 30. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%84ttestupa
Popularity is another strong factor that causes something known as the “bandwagon effect.” In other words, when people see that a lot of fellow users like and support something, they’re more likely to do it, too.
When we see something shared and reacted to very many times, we might assume that someone else must’ve verified it before for it to get so popular, and thus, we focus way less on assessing this information.
The misconception that humans only use 10% of their brains, which has been debunked by neuroscience. In reality, various parts of the brain have specific functions, and most of the brain is active at different times.
Sometimes it's not that hard to believe. Trump rally, Andrew Tate and Elon Musk fanboys, NFT investors...
I'm tired to read over and over again how this false fact was debunked when in reality the fact was very different in the first place: most of us use only between 10-20% of our brains true potential on a daily basis!
In a way certain people (like politicians, hoa board members etc...) utilize 10% of their potential intelligence and common sense....

As many could guess, falling for fake news can just as well be accredited to political views and alignments. People are prone to more readily accept information that positively correlates with their political ideology and reject news opposing it.
And lastly, misinformation is notoriously sticky, and it’s difficult to undo the effect that false news leaves. According to the article, our memory is not very good at differentiating between a truth and a lie. When it comes to remembering something, we sometimes tend to assume that information was correct, regardless of whether it was false and whether it was later corrected.
Myers-Briggs personality test has no indepently verified evidence behind it. It has no more scientific evidence behind it than a Cosmo quiz.
It makes a lot more sense when you distinguish between the way corporations are using it and the rather more salient lesson from the Myers Briggs fad that other people have different personalities, needs and preferences than you and you can’t always make assumptions about others based on what YOU prefer.
The tests you currently find online usually go a bit beyond the original Myers Briggs. Does anyone know how much these advancements tackle the criticism of the test? I found it a great exercise and very eye opening. My result fit very well, those of team colleagues couldn't have been further from my personality. Hence the astrology analogy doesn't really fit (where you just read into it what you want) Any such exercise can be really healthy, if used to trigger self reflection. But of course is utterly useless to judge others.

Carrots improve your night vision.
It was a “fact” promoted by the Allies during WW2 to hide their invention of radar. All those British pilots are downing German bombers at night because they eat so many carrots! Totally not because we have a device that lets us see them day or night from dozens of miles away.
Still, nyctalopia (night-blindness) may be caused by the deficiency of vitamin A. And carrots are rich in carotene, which is converted to vitamin A in the body. So carrots do not improve night vision, but help to prevent night-blindness.
As an added bonus to the British for their clever use of misinformation, the German pilots were force fed so many carrots that they couldn't fly due to having the squirts.
...and your s🔞x life if they are used respectfully and sustainably. 🥕🥒
To summarize, in this day and age, information can spread faster than ever before, and disproven “truths” that keep circulating can be more dangerous than they ever were.
Not all of the false information is dangerous - some is simply annoying. But knowing how to differentiate between what’s real and what’s not online is crucial. And updating your mental libraries with corrected facts like the ones we see in this Reddit thread is definitely beneficial.
"the triptofan in turkey makes you sleepy!"
1: you'd have to eat an entire 20 pound turkey by yourself in one sitting to get enough triptofan to get sleepy from it
2: chicken actually has higher concentrations of it, and nobody is running around saying chicken made them sleepy.
Overeating makes you sleepy. Not the turkey.
Dealing with keeping on a "big happy family" face is always what made me sleepy on Thanksgiving from exhausting my social battery, but blaming the turkey just sounds better.

24 hours for a missing persons report—can’t tell you how many people call 911 after their child/partner has been missing for that long.
Referring to a post from a few minutes ago. You must drink 3 litres of water every day to maintain your health.
There is no scientific basis for this “fact” and overindulgence can be dangerous
Drink when thirsty, if you are to thirsty go see medic it could be some issue. Food also contains water, that also needs to be counted in! Pee have no reason to be as translucent as the water from a natural spring.
The exact number may be wrong, but if y’all think drinking TOO MUCH water is a more pressing issue in society than not drinking enough, then I throw up my hands in despair.
Water toxicity is hard to do normally, but getting dehydrated is very easy. Drink when you’re thirsty and try to get maybe 1 liter a day at minimum just to maintain your fluid levels. It’s honestly not that difficult to keep yourself watered like a slightly more sentient houseplant. 😎
I drink almost that much if not more in summer. Winter I drink less because it's cold and less sweaty
It's a benchmark and it's valuable to have one! Because 1 liter is just not enough (for normal activity). And 5-6 liters should probably come with heat and exercise. Drinking too little is the much bigger issue. Especially because a lot of folks mistake thirst for hunger (or craving for sweets)
That Napolean was short. He was actually average height. The power of propaganda is immense.
Seems some modern politicians are having issues with this too. Apparently a notorious far-right politician was recently spotted wearing high heeled boots to make himself look taller, even though he's a perfectly normal height at 5'8" without them.
DeSanctimonious wears them too, as well as wearing boots that are much too big for his feet to make it appear he has big feet. (You can tell when you watch him walking, and his feet bend where feet do not bend.)

This isn't necessarily true. I'm not into the stuff but different plants and herbs and things have compounds that do actually help certain things. Turmeric for example is a great anti-inflammatory and if u have a toothache and can handle chewing on a clove it will absolutely numb it. Alot of supplements and medicines are derived from these compounds found in nature and they just use the simplest form to produce medicines from. It shouldn't be the only option for medical treatments for sure but it can be used for simple everyday aches pains and such if you actually know what works
That on average you swallow 8 spiders a year.

The best reply I ever hear to this was, "That's ridiculous. You can swallow as many spiders as you want."

I always wait 24 hours to swim after eating, and I report people missing after 30 minutes. I think I may be doing it wrong.

That if you touch a baby animal for any reason, their parents will abandon them because they now smell like you.

This makes me soo angry. Tourist should get a lot more than a fine !!
Load More Replies...This actually does happen. Source, I co-founded a rabbit rescue and had to bottle feed too many newborns after the mom rejected them once they were touched by human hands....not all, but a lot. I also worked for an animal shelter and yes it happens there with kittens and puppies as well.
It's a very valuable and correct rule. Because there are much much more idiots touching wildlife for no good reason whatsoever than folks who are educated enough to correctly identify if wildlife is in need for help and then able to give proper help. don't touch wildlife! don't feed wildlife! (unless you educated yourself (facts not opinion!) and know what you are doing)
Especially birds! Most songbirds don't have that great a sense of smell (if any at all). If you find a baby bird, put it back in the nest if you possibly can.
It's not true if u see a fallen baby bird u should always try and out it back in the nest. I've seen baby deer dropped from mothers in a panic run and they just get picked up and moved to a safer spot where mama can come back to get them. It's more u don't want to spend a lot of time with a baby animal because they can attach themselves to u instead of their mother and that can be a problem but simply moving one out of harms way will not make the parents reject it.

That one anecdote that every paranoid snake-hater doles out about that pet python who stopped eating and would sleep in the bed with its owner. Supposedly "sizing her up" and "making room" to eat her.
Snakes aren't that smart. They're opportunistic predators, they don't really plan ahead. Could you imagine a python sliding up next to an antelope and calmly trying to compare measurements? Besides, the most common pet snakes are too small to eat a full grown human anyway. (They can definitely squeeze one to death on accident, so you should never handle a large snake alone, but they won't try to eat you afterwards.)
Rule of thumb I learned was any constrictor over 10 feet and you need 2 people in the room. My largest before I had to re-home them was Wilma (16 foot reticulated python-het albino) she was a total sweetheart with me but not my GF at the time. I couldn't imagine her going after me but I was always safe rather than sorry.
