Letting go is one of the hardest things someone can do and if you hear a friend or a relative saying it was easy, then they weren’t actually in love like the way you fell in love with your ex. Letting go is never easy when your heart still beats for that person. You’ve heard friends and family tell you that you deserve better and while you know its true, you just can’t seem to break free from your feelings for your ex. The hardest part about letting go is finally realizing that there wasn’t much left to hold on to.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make while trying to move on is to re-visit the past. Stop reading old text messages, stop scrolling through your phone going through pictures of the two of you. You are only breaking your heart every time you do that. You have to let go of your ex to receive your next. You can’t embrace the future while clinging to the past. I remember a quote i read from a favorite author of mine and it read “The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.” How true is that quote? Often times we hold on to the memories which make it hard to take a step forward into a new beginning.

He’s living his life, so stop letting him get in the way of you living yours. Never lose yourself trying to hold on to memories of someone who is probably happily sleeping next to someone else. While you are still holding on to hope they have moved on. Cry your last cry if you have to, but promise yourself to never cry over the same thing again. You have to understand that some things are meant to happen, but just not meant to be. Some things are meant to come in your life, just not meant to stay. Don’t lose yourself by trying to fix what’s meant to stay broken.

Their part in your story is over. It’s hard, but sometimes you have to learn when your part is over in someone’s story. Heal yourself, find yourself, know yourself, correct yourself, see yourself, love yourself, be yourself, respect yourself. Someone who is worth your love will never make you feel as if you are not good enough.

“In the end only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of the things not meant for you.” -Buddha
